theoretical question: lower variance or higher EV

Hello Guys!

There is a topic that m not sure about.

Often I have to chose between call and shove.

Let's say, I have AKs on CO with 20bb eff. stack.
EP limps, MP iso to 4bb.
JUST FOR THE EXAMPLE, let's say_
the call has +100 EVbb/100
the shove has +200 EVbb/100.

BUT!
If we just call, we can busted out from the tour in about 30%
if we shove. we can busted out about 40%.

It make any sense? :-D
Is it possible that we have to chose the move with the lower EV, but also with the lower variance? (because both the choice have positive EV)

TY GUYS!, GL, T79

Well, if you call I'd argue you won't realize that equity as often as when you shoved, making shoving actually an even higher EV play than calling as you'll likely check/fold missed flops at this stack depth.

Iam not sure what ur question is but its prob is not the exact numbers right??
Do u mean when ur playing a tournament ? if so then u can argue about icm and how much ev its taking from shoving.

In a cash game its is only one simple option.
If u want to lower ur variance in cash games but that leads to losing ev, then it would not be smart, just make sure u can take the variance with a good brm.
