Spots or balance? (Theory)
Lets say you are on one of the last 2-3 tables of a tournament with 200-1000 players on Stars(Top heavy) with 30-200 buy-in, it´s folded to you with a larger than average stack in the hijack, lets call it 35-40 bb. You think the button will 3-bet you too wide if you open small here and you believe you can jam over his 3-bet with close to any two. You also have a tight image from earlier levels. You still believe button will be way too wide, as you think he will percieve this to be a "spot"
Are you going to open and shove/4b 72o, wait for A3o, QJo, 65s etc that plays a bit better or blocks his value hands or attempt to play a very balanced/unexploitable strategy?
Any general opinion on spots vs a more theoretical/unexploitable/balanced/mathematical approach are welcome as well as comments on how big an expected value you want when risking your tournament life. X value for Y chance of going broke?
Everything is assuming you have a big enough bankroll to handle whatever swings the best approach will bring.
