I feel that he is kinda inexperience and interprets my cbet as sign of weakness, but even a reckless guy would ever check raises strong flop n 3-barrels turn n river?

Espen Sørlie 11 years, 4 months ago

I think you played it alright. checking back flop is a reasonable option too. It might induce him to bet bet with bluffs and we can easily call him down. It is a hand we cant expect to get 3 streets from worse too often so a safer route like checking back and call - calling or bet -betting is possibly better

Thanks for your reply Espen. I would def. check back turn if called to allow missed straight draws to bluff me which i think its in his range, thats why i cbet to get value from broadways, 9j, tj.. but i see your point there in checking back.. its def an option.

I agree with Espen on the checking back the flop part. The flop is dry and this would be a great hand and texture for getting two streets of value. The way it's played I think is fine. You could argue for folding on the turn already, as he reps a very strong hand. He should be very inexperienced to dare a bluff on such a bad textured board.

Thanks for your replay Degnovic. My reasoning behind floating turn is that most people check raising flops as semi bluffs (gutshots or open enders), usually barrels turns and gives up rivers if a blank comes, and thats what I thought it was gonna happen but i had to give him the benefit of the doubt with that river bet

Agree, you must fold the river. In the long run you are way behind imo. On river if he is not totally reckless he must figure you have min JJ/TT and most likely a hand like KQ.

If he's willing to c/r barrel barrel finding a call is almost impossible here unless its vs someone you have history with and you know would barrel barrel all missed draws that he would also c/r flop with lol.

I like checking back on flops like this most of the time to avoid spots like this where you possibly could be getting blown off best hand a small percentage of the time and to pot control rest of the hand and most likely get 2 streets of value from villian.  Most competent players when oop and flop goes c/c are going to lead almost their entire range of any pairs draws gut shots overs etc on turn and give up when called and missed on river and any 2nd pair hands that lead turn and you flat turn with might give you another st of value with a river lead or river c/c on brick rivers.

I think people itt are being pretty results oriented about checking the flop. Our range is much stronger than our opponents and we can get a lot of value from him and prevent him from realizing equity with a lot of hands by betting the flop. It sucks when he c/r, bet, bets on a dry runout, but that happens a very small percent of the time. I think OP played this hand well.
