Questions about playing CAP cash games to improve at Mtts.
Hello all,
I would describe myself as a "serious recreational" player. In other words, I have a job and real life commitments, but I try to learn and study poker as much as I can and take it seriously.
I play cash games in the week simply because I don't have the time to play an mtt session. I really enjoy cash and am improving, but I'd also like to simultaneoulsy improve my mtt game if possible as this is my preference. So I had an idea.....
If I was to play the 20BB CAP cash games on stars, how much would that improve me as an mtt player?
I know the pitfalls:
1)There is no ICM
2)All stack sizes are the same
3)There are no antes
4) Learning to be too balanced might make me miss out on some very proitable exploits in mtt's (i'm unsure on this one).
However, there are still some potential positives in t heory, I believe. Such as:
1) We get practice playing a weak range OOP (BB defence)
2) we can "balance" our ranges more comfortably in t hese 20BB stack scenarios
3) We get good resteal practice
4) I can play this most nights
I guess I just wanted to write the above out as it's something I'm considering.
Does anybody have first hand experience of playing these games and transitioning to mtt's, or playing them alongside mtt's?
Have I missed off any important pros or cons of this approach?
I know there is at least one pro on RIO who plays CAP (Dvoress) and he has some extremely good mtt scores lately if you view his pocketfives. But there's a decent chance that's just because he's awesome at poker with all stack sizes! :)
Any thoughts/advice appreciated.
