Prepping for WSOP, how to brush off my NLHE/MTT rust?
Hi guys,
I'm thinking of playing a couple of events in this year's WSOP, as well as the Main Event if my schedule permits. I'd like to prepare for it, but am not quite sure how I should use my limited time in the most efficient way.
A bit about myself: I have been playing online poker for ~5 years. First 3.5 years I played NLHE, almost exclusively HU cash and HUSNG with occasional MTT's. Then I stopped playing NLHE altogether and transitioned into PLO cash, and never really looked back. Although I haven't played more than 50 hours of NLHE ever since then, I am still comfortable with NLHE in general, thanks to my early HUNL background. I am also familiar with poker theory and GTO ideas and such.
However, I am fairly leaky with short-stacked preflop game, which I think is a huge part of MTT. I am also not too keen on all those "trendy" plays that are prevalent in MTT. I am probably also bad when it comes to managing variance in MTT, usually erring on the side of grasping every edge possible rather than passing on some of the marginal ones. In short, my NLHE game is quite rusty, and especially so when it's short-stacked. :(
Given my situation, how should I work on my game? I reckon that I have about 2~2.5 months to work on my game, and I think I can invest about half an hour a day, so that should be ~30 hours from now on. I know, it's not a ton of hours but that's my best bet for now. I'd still like to use that time in the most efficient way, though.
Any inputs and comments would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
