Playing on SB 30-40 BB effective

Blinds: t600/t1,200 (7 Players) CO: 39,864
BN: 52,907
SB: 41,974 (Hero)
BB: 85,938
UTG: 46,716
UTG+1: 14,699
MP: 29,964
Preflop (1,800) Hero is SB with J A
3 folds, CO raises to 2,400, BN folds, Hero calls 1,800, BB calls 1,200

We are on the SB faced a CO steal. In game I was not sure whether to 3 bet or call. neither of this options didn't seem very interesting for me. If I 3 bet to something around 7-8k and then Cb flop I can lose big portion of my stack, but on the other hand it seems like great spot for CO to steal so he might open raise wide and fold to 3 bet a lot. But in game i decided for more passive option and make a call (BB was passive), this option doesn't seem good as well, since mostly I will fit or fold.

Which play is preferable in your opinion?

3bet preflop is probably better, depends on villain ofc, but he should have a pretty wide CO opening range! AJo is not the easiest hand to play OOP without betting lead

3bet preflop to 6-8bb and fold to 4bet. Larger 3bet for more fold eq if you feel uncomfortable playing OOP. If V flats pre, CbetF 5bb any dry Axx, Kxx, Qxx, Jxx, Txx boards should take it down with your range advantage. If the board comes out wet/dynamic you can take a more passive line since it hits V's range more than yours.
