Playing higher stakes Live

Hey guys,

I won a satellite to a much higher buy event than what I'm used to playing. The event I'm playing is 4 days, with 60/90 minute levels ($5k buy in $5m gtd), and I have most experience and success in 2 day 30/40 min $400-600 buy in type events.

This is the structure: http://www.seminolehardrockpokeropen.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/2015-SHRPO-Championship-Event-21-NLH(No-RE).pdf

I have about 1 month to prepare. How should I invest this time? What will be the main differences in how this plays? What adjustments should I look to make? Should I get some coaching, should I meditate, hit the gym, re-read my fav books?

Any advice for a guy playing at a big event for the first time would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Watch vids on RIO! All kidding aside, any of the 4 you listed (or all of them) are great ideas. I'm in the same boat right now, as I'm going to play my first EPT in Barcelona. I have played the WSOP ME before, and a few other higher buy ins, so I somewhat know what to expect though.

I'm not really sure how the Seminole will play, but as an overall, these types of buy ins tend to be quite a bit more about raising wars than the level you are normally playing. You will see lots of 3bets and 4 bets pre. I'd suggest watching some videos on defending vs 3b's and considering doing some range building exercises... take a while to really think about how your range functions on a variety of flops, and do your best to add/remove hands to allow you to continue on lots of flops. The tournament will play quite deep for a while, so remain patient.

Most importantly - have fun. Don't get down on yourself if you take some losses early, as the long levels and slow structure will leave you lots of time to recover. Get lots of rest, eat well and keep a level head. Best of it to you!

Thanks man, appreciate the feedback and encouragement.

I am hearing the same from a couple of pro buddies about there being lots more 3 and 4 betting pre. I will heed this advice and try to work on those ranges.

Best of luck in Barthalona! :)
