merits of playing satellites to online tourneys

hey ,

im just thinking whats the real purpose of playing satelites to online events that your BR cant afford.

isnt all tourneys you play kind of a satellite to bigger ones ?

or whats the difference between regular sngs to the sat ones ? as the fields are pretty much the same, the higher the buy in, more regs in it...

thanks

You are correct that all tourneys could be considered as satellites to larger tourneys and if you win one to a tourney outside your bankroll you should likely unreg and use the money for more buyins at you're regular level. As far as sngs go the steps have way more fish than the corresponding regular sngs. If you put in some work on satellite endgame strategy you can achieve a nice edge over the regs that dont adjust correctly to the vastly different payout structure.

I'm not a good MTT player, mostly play cash, but I almost never play satellites even though they surely are profitable , because I'm quite sure my EV is better playing cash game than satellites. Therefore if I have time I play cash and just direct buy-in even big MTTs I want to play.

Must be quite different for a MTT pro allergic to CG though :).

Anybody has experience in live large field( not a single table satellites) MTT's satelites WSOP, WPT or others. I usually bust out near bubble, I think I need to to specific work for that.
Any suggestions?
