Low or high variance line?

$55 acr mid tourney 10 min blinds

Co (lag, pushes action): 45bb
Btn (solid, not a lot of info): 35bb
Bb (hero, card dead): 21bb

8 handed co raise 2.3bb, btn call, i call bb 97o. Pot approx 8.2 bb with antes
Flop t83r i chk, co chk, btn bet 2.5bb
Pot 10.7bb

Do i take the low variance line, preserve my stack and cc and hope the semi uncapped co does not raise, or do i apply max pressure and jam for a pot worth 50% my stack and push co out and move btn off kjs qjs type hands?

I never know if i should take the high or low variance line.

Hey soundspeed,

Even at the mid-stage of a tournament there is still significant ICM pressure in the background and generally you do want to play more passively as the tournament progresses.

In this situation I actually prefer just calling, Cutoff still should have an uncapped range (although in my experience people over cbet flop and are more likely to have a weaker check back range than in theory), but I also think that Bu bets this more less often than they should, which leads them to have a slightly stronger range than at equilibrium. If I have 97s with the backdoor FD I would be more inclined with the raise as we have more equity when getting it in, but I think this is just going to be too weak and would play it as a call.

Hi Ryan,
I was thinking that we also just may not have the value rng to support using this hand as a jam. If we were at the beginning of a tourney with 100bb effective and we could apply multiple streets of pressure do you feel this hand can go into a cr raise rng? Thanks.

Yes I do think it is one we could check raise at 100bb effective, but I also suspect if would be on the lower frequency, at the top of my head somewhere between 10-20% depending on the combo.

I like check raising here. the ratio of the pot to your stack makes it worth it. here, I have varied either all in or a smaller check raise. advantage of smaller check raise is that you will buy some there anyway. I have then varied my turn plays by moving all in. you get your share of folds there (even though villian at that point is getting decent pot odds)., and when you do, you now have extra money from him calling your flop CR.

I like a call. Getting the jam through two people is obviously a lot tougher than one. And you know calling the button's bet is profitable. Yes if the cutoff check raises big you're going to lose those chips, but that's way better than jamming and then finding out he or the button has a huge hand. Call, keep your stack utility, and see a turn!
