Live tournament with 8bb left on the final table
Hey guys and gals I've got a question for you. I was in a live MTT last night and made the final table. I had about 8bb left and was in CO. 5 people left, MP shoved with close to the same, let's say 9-9.5bb left. I had 56dd and called.
Here's my question, when we're low and someone shoved on us, should we call with the bottom of our own shoving range or should we just fold and wait for another opportunity? I've been wondering about this for a while. Does someone else shoving make our range weaker when we're so low on chips?
Thanks in advance.

Calling here is a big mistake. It would be fine if folded to you and you shoved. You can't call off your tournament life with 6 high tho. See Dan Harrington's all important concept of "first in vigorish". You have fold equity with your stack so you need to be first in the pot.
Awesome thanks! I was missing the piece about fold equity and why that's a big part of why we are shoving. So then we should only be calling pre with hands that we feel will have higher equity than what we feel the villain shoving range is right?
Tournament play is new to me so I wasn't sure about that.
imo it's a fold. Like ralphykid67 said if folded to you it's a move. It's a move or not will depend on some things like all players stack, the pay jump, stack of player on your left. the bottom of your calling range must be very different from the bottom of your open/shv range.
