Late Registration?

I've a doubt, I'm not really at tournament poker math, but I understand the following concept.

Each of the chips of a shortstack are worth more than each of the chips of a bigstack and that these increases as less players remain in the field.

And then I asked myself if it would be better to register late for tournaments than early. I mean if you buyin from the start your 3000 chips or whatever are going to be worth let's say $10 bucks, but if you late register you are going to get those same 3000 chips that were worth $10 bucks but now are worth say $14 bucks or whatever it is, I mean you would be making $4 bucks by just registering late.

But on the otherside the worst players would be out, everybody will have you covered (so you cant resist an all in) and that well obviously you wont have room because you will start with few BBs.

I only have intentions to do this in turbo micro-low tournaments where I know I have a big edge and even though the worst players are out I still have a considerable edge on the reamining players.

What do you think about this?

Hello Bernardo,

To answer your question, I dont have a math reasoning behind it but by experience I prefer reg on time when I know I'll have a bigger edge on the field to be able to look for spots on where I could get my chips from. Also on tougher fields, I find also imp to reg on time to dev many reads on the players.

As for late reg, I occasionally do it for turbos with a workable stack 10-15 bigs.

ahh, thanks for letting me know :)

OP, I guess it should be the opposite then .. can late reg in normal speed but in turbo must aim to reg on time

Problem w lateregging turbos is the rake. Not sure about all sites, but on stars for example its 10%. Since even the weakest players nowadays have somewhat of a grasp of push/fold pokers, ure battling significantly tinier edges, so beating the rake becomes close to impossible. Maybe not so much on the bottom end, like the 2.7/5.4's, but 11+.
