Just a cooler, but anyone play the river differently?

Played a hand which to a large extent is just a bad beat but I wouldn't mind running it past you guys anyway.

$250 6max tournament, blinds at 15/30, 5k Starting Stacks. I open to 75 with KK in CO, BTN is good aggressive reg 3Bets to 190, I 4Bet to 550, BTN flats. Flop is 942r , I CBet 550, Call. Turn Q, I bet 1175, Call. River 9. I feel like this is a pretty bad card for me actually as I think the Villain can definitely have a 9 in his hand quite a lot the way the hand has played out. I move all in for 2800 effective and am shown the J9s.

I think my opponent does have a lot of suited 9 combos, as well hands like TT, JJ, AQ. I don't really think he has that many sets given the action. Is jam river the only move here, or would anyone ever play it any other way? Villain and I have reasonable amount of history and I think view one another as being capable aggressive players.

if you think the 9 is a bad card , why shove? check-decide river , you are never getting worse to call in a 100bbs shove

if you think more in depth its actually a painful but easy check fold in that river.

theres no draws on the board so he probably has some showdown value type hands or slowplayed monsters.        ( assuming he does not double float you with hands like  A5s or a4s).

So if you check river he will check back the majority of his hands that you beat, and bet the ones like he had.

I do see a river check here as well, but I wouldn't say it is a default fold. Depending on the aggressiveness of villain and the board texture (drawy or not) we can c/c here.

By shoving you are isolating yourselve vs the top end of his range. More or less you are vbetting for him and give him an easy decision by calling his monsters and folding anything less than a good Queen or so. Check/Calling can induce light vbets from him (JJ, TT, KQ, AQ) and maybe even a bluff some time.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The turn did bring a flush draw as it happens I don't really think that made a huge ton of difference. I think I acted a little too quickly and just had it in mind to extract as much value from the value hands we have mentioned which I thought would likely check back if I had checked. Thanks for the feedback though, I think I agree with the river check/decide, with a possible lean to check/fold. It may have been unrealistic to think I could get value from TT, JJ either way, but that was my logic in the moment.
