Getting to HS MTTs

hey there guys. the topic i want to discuss here is the way to get there. (;
im playing since ~2007 and played cash hunlhe and cash huplo mostly but currently i'm playing mostly low stakes mtts with some shots to bigger ones here and there. and netting 3-4k a month on average. i don't feel like VOLUME is a key to get to HS. in my opinion practice is only what you need :D so you have to put volume but not playing mass tables instead to mass practicing and practicing smarter than your opponents. so i'm looking for an edge in that way.
sometimes i don't know where my leaks are because results tells me that scooping turbo nlhe here, non-turbo there, 6max plo here and so on... so it's looks like i'm doing at least not bad. ended both 2011 (since jan until blackfriday) and 2012 after tilt relaunch with 9 stars at opr... but damn, i want to get my skills better, my intuition and feeling sharper so i need to practice more. some people are telling that learning 25%-35% of your playing time is good. but for me it looks like learning 90% of the time and playing the rest is way better...
reading books and thinking about the game itself is out of the question. this is good... but after reading Mathematics of poker i think any other book is somewhat waste of time :D discussing hands and walking through hand analysis is fine but i don't have any other mate MTTers....
so the question i want you to help me to be answered is "how to practice better?".
for example nlhe mtts. what should i do to become a master here? any suggestions? what did you do?

i mean exactly something like:
i did the following:
downloaded pokerstove, and start to explore the ranges i need to call vs button jam in sb vs my bb...
and another question. poker is all about ranges, so how to get the right assumption about enemy's (this is exactly the way i thinks about other players on my table) range (not about note-taking, but about estimating while practicing)?
the other question is how much of +chipev but high variance spots i need to pass up in HS MTTs? at my limits i'm passing almost all of the stuff like 60/40 preflop out of the money. and somewhat closer to not passing much (sometimes at all) +chipev itm. and somewhat icm-ish style on the final table. but for sure it depends...

so that was my thoughts on that topic. but it looks like the question is somewhat transformed to:
what are the elements of success in HS MTTs and how to master them?

ps. i really want to get to that *elite club* of 10-starsers on opr :D and hopefully will get there soon (;
