Early position newbie tips 10-20bb

Hey all I started playing mtts and noticed that early position is a problem for me. Not sure how to approach the situation with about 10bb.
When i consider shoving should i choose hands that are ahead of calling ranges? aware looking at whos in blinds is important since they get better price bla bla but not sure how to estimate profitability of shoving some hands early.

should i just be using icmizer for this spot to work out a range?

You definitely don't need to be ahead of calling ranges to make a profitable shove.
For example, you can shove very wide from the SB against a tight BB because you can expect the BB to fold everything but the top ~10% of his hands, meaning in 9/10 times you will take down his big blind if you were to shove 100% of your hands.

A 100% range still has 32% equity against a 10% calling range, meaning in the scenario from the example when shoving SB vs BB 10BB deep, you would win (0.9 x 1BB) - (0.1 x 10BB x 0.68) = 0.9BB - 0.68BB = 0.22BB every time you shove despite clearly losing against his calling range.

Similarly, you need to take into account fold equity when constructing shoving ranges as taking down the blinds and antes uncontested is a huge part of your EV when shoving.
For studying purposes, using ICMizer or other tools and/or push/fold charts over and over again will really help you get a feel for what ranges will be profitable to shove in all scenarios and help you make the correct decisions in-game.

Hello! You can you this link to work on your push/fold situations. https://floattheturn.com/wp/

Go to "Tools"/PushFoldCharts" and "Tools"PushFoldCalculator".

The site provides also a quiz where you can train on the spots you want to study more. There are also videos on the site on how to work with this!

The concept detailed here is called 'Gap Concept'. I think it was first brought up by David Slansky. Feel free to look for this on internet, you may find it useful.
