I am hoping some of the pros here can just clarify I'm not missing anything profound here. I have watched most of the HSMTT videos on this site and note you guys handread well and pick your spots even when having a big chip lead.

5 Tables left in the daily Big $162. Villain in this hand is a successful regular. Prior to this hand I had him marked him as a good regular (I have 3 colors, top, good, and decent). I notice a lot of marginal to bad regulars get deep in big tournaments and try to win every pot in the tournament by opening absurd frequencies.

He is running around 38/35 at this table over a small sample. Given we are probably the 2 best players in the field and he doesn't raise flops much, it's very conceivable I lead a strong range. So I liked a lead line rather than a c/c or c/r.

Obviously this hand tilts me because I think his play is terrible and seems like just button clicking to try to win every pot. He's not at the level of the pros here where I would give him credit for soulreading me and bluff-raising turn to protect his equity versus my "obvious air heavy lead" so I'm just double checking I guess.

In my opinion, your biggest mistake was to donk bet the flop and lead the turn. You are just represent what you have! A draw! I think the best play is to check/call the flop and if he bets again the turn check/raise (shove) and if a shove would be to big, you better make a small raise and shove every River...

This is the problem in your reasoning - you really wouldn't check KQ, sets etc here? Even if you wouldn't, your opponents will expect you to (since it's the most logical) and won't interpret your lead as strength, unless you've built a history of showing down strong hands after leading against an opponent.

Hey really appreciate the responses in this thread. Don't know how I missed them earlier.

Based on what you guys have alluded to, I was honest with myself and realized I was leading because I didn't want to c/r call off and flip when the rest of the field was so soft. It was an act of cowardice and my lead isn't really balanced here.

I still think his play is terrible but I won't pretend to be balanced leading here. I would most definitely checkraise nearly all of my strong stuff here.

I really doubt you're ever leading a balanced range here at all, especially against an aggressive reg who you think is going to be cbetting/barrelling and putting a lot of pressure on you post flop. I'd be interested to see who the reg is in the hand tbh - is the turn raise pure button clicking after all?
