As a primarily cash game player, it's very rare (almost 0%) that I bet for information. In a tournament, however, I've heard some opposing views as to how betting for information may be beneficial. I'm curious to hear what people's thoughts are and if there are situations where you bet for information, please explain further. My gut tells me that due to the issue of preserving your tournament life there are spots in MTTs that are worth taking in order to make a hand easier to play (whereas in a cash game you make take a higher variance line).
