Approaches to opening range construction
Hey RIO,
I'm looking for some help trying to construct ideal opening ranges in MTTs off different stack sizes, mainly from 15-125bb and more so in ep and mp. I've spent a good amount of time constructing my own opening ranges in the past, and have used tools like HRC or ICMIZER to build open jam, raise/call, raise/fold ranges for shorter stacks like 24bb and less from CO-SB. I've also constructed ranges for deeper stacks from all positions, but I feel like my approach is quite unscientific and a lot of my ranges are probably kind of arbitrary.
Is there a way to build GTO opening ranges for deep stack situations both pre and post ante for a lot of different positions? Often times I just think about what hands will play well and give good board coverage and likely be +EV to open for the given effective stacks and that's how I choose my ranges. This is probably pretty useful, but I'd like to improve my ranges as much as possible and am not sure how to take a more data driven approach.
I've spent a ton of time on preflop strategy and not so much time on other concepts, but I think in MTTs this is for sure the best bang for buck you can get. Also, it seems like opening ranges are the foundation of any strategy and without a solid foundation it's hard to have a really good/ unexploitable strategy on later streets, so I'm very interested in having as close to perfect opening ranges as possible in most situations. Can anyone give me some tips for how to take my opening strategies from quite good to elite level?? Thanks for reading
