AKo valuebet turn
This is a 200$ buy in tournament hand online:
Efective stacks 60bb:
I OR AKo to 2bb in CO and BB CC.
Flop is AhTh5s
I bet half pot, he calls.
Turn Jh.
Do you bet/fold for value turn and check the river or do you prefer to check behind turn to pot control? I don't think that he would bluff raise me often.
Also if it goes check check turn and he bets we will have a tought decision to make...

check turn in a card that is better for his range and bluff catch most rivers
You normally prefer check-calling in turns which are better for his range in this kind of situations?
The think is that bluff catching in blank rivers is not very good (it should be near EV=0) since the only bluffs that he has are 5x and Tx that he is turning in to a bluff, and by betting the turn we make him fold those hands which are making a profitable bluff.
Also, if you think about how his range will play out, betting turn and checking river looks better for me:
In river blank (4d), it is probably better to bet turn because:
vs Ax we will get 1 street of value only. SAME.
vs QhJ, KhJ is better to bet turn because he will call the turn but not always the river. BET TURN best.
vs Two pair, SAME.
vs Tx, 5x, SAME.
In river (Qd),
vs Ax we will get 1 street of value on turn but not river. BET TURN best.
vs QhJ, KhJ. against QJ is best to bet turn because we get 1 street of value 100% time. BET TURN best.
vs Two pair. BET TURN best.
vs Tx, 5x. He will bluff river. WAIT RIVER best.
In river Kd,
vs Ax we will get 1 street of value on turn but not river. BET TURN best.
vs QhJ, KhJ. against QJ is best to bet turn because we get 1 street of value 100% time. BET TURN best.
vs Two pair. BET TURN best.
vs Tx, 5x. Since we will probably fold to his bluffs. BET TURN best.
In river heart,
vs Ax we will get 1 street of value on turn but not river. BET TURN best.
vs QhJ, KhJ. WAIT RIVER best.
vs two pair. WAIT RIVER best.
vs Tx, 5x. He will bluff river. BET TURN best.
It looks like Betting turn is slightly better. Do you still think that checking turn is better, why? Is is the fact that the turn card better for his range just enough to justify the check?
Actually I think that card is almost as good for our range as for him if we are just betting BDFD, GS, FD, AJ+, Two pair+ on the flop (which is the range I will bet).
If you fold AK on any river he can float almost atc. You can select other class of bluff catchers to look him up but AK is pretty high up on your range.
b/f turn seems way worse and realizing your equity by checking behind turn.
The think is that bluff catching in blank rivers is not very good (it should be near EV=0) since the only bluffs that he has are 5x and Tx that he is turning in to a bluff, and by betting the turn we make him fold those hands which are making a profitable bluff.
Your assumptions are contradictory. If he folds 5x and Tx OTT our EV would be pot. If he turns any of them into a bluff OTR and we call we collect pot and a portion of it that is his bet.
I wasn't contradicting, I was talking about folding AK on the river.
I was trying to say that I am not sure if a random player of a MTT will bluff enough Tx so calling with AK is profitable in that river, in flopzilla it says 42%+ of his range will be Two pair or better in that runout when check, check turn, and more than 30% will be TPs which wont valuff normally. So this leaves him with the need to bluff most of the Tx for us to make a profitable call with AK (Which I don't think is obvious).
In a cash game I will insta call river but in an isolation play, I am not that sure about it being EV+ even if it is top of our BCatch range.
whats the top of your bet-check range ?
You meant bet flop and check turn?
AK, AQ. Since AJ is two pair and A9 I check behind flop.
