SB is an empty seat - it folds to the button who min raises to 5000. His stats are not aggressive but he has been opening co and button quite a bit. I've been pretty quiet through the bubble and have folded to a couple of recent steals. I feel as though he may be light so should I call to defend op, 3 bet call off or fold or shove with less than 10x his raise?

I don't really like calling personally when effective stacks are so short. We have a pretty decent hand and if we think we have some fold equity I think a shove is best here.

That was my first thought but I wondered why he wouldn't open shove with his stack size unless he was slow playing something....but of course I had set a precedent by folding to his earlier steals

yah i think that is a fine line of thinking. its tough to say precisely in this spot what this opponent is doing. He could have AA here and be hoping to induce. It really depends on on read and what we've seen. If you say you've seen this player min open a few times I'm more inclined to think our hand has fold equity. He also could be calling a shove with hands we are ahead of KQ, KJ, 77-22, Ax. Yes we are going to run into better A9-AK, 88-AA but we have equity against his entire range here plus what we perceive as some fold equity.

I see way too many people r/f off <10bb or r/c hands they should shove QJs, A4s, KJo to worry about this too much. Try doing a filter on your db and see what they're doing in your games. Sure he'll have a monster sometimes but even a stopped clock's right twice a day.

I just couldn't fold that hand so I 3 bet thinking to call his bluff so to speak. He snap shoved of course and I tanked for a while and folded. I seem to make some bad decisions at this stage of MTTs - not yet mandatory push call for me but not a big enough stack to raise fold really. I hung around for a while, went card dead and ended up blinding out pretty much in 38. That's why you should take these spots I think

Yah I don't think he's ever going to have a 4bet bluff range. The stacks aren't deep enough for him to be doing that. You gotta put the pressure on and shoving does that and puts him in the spot you are in. Shit players will fold better hands here A9, A10 and lots of times smaller PP which is why the shove is so effective.

3b/f a blocker is not good. shove or fold. I go for shove 100% of time even tough the EV of steal is decreased by no SB in the hand and it should make his stealing range a bit tighter, but I am not sure if guys are paying attention to this

You can interpret is as a HU pot and he should open wider. Beside that, the EV of stealing in terms of bb decreases making the incentive to steal smaller given that if he opens and jams he risked more to win less.

Lets say the CO had made this raise instead of button with his stats and no recent activity at the table......still shove?

If he's been regularly minraising and not shoving off this stack and particularly if we have ever seen him r/f then I'm shoving this and a lot wider. In fact he'd have to have shoved every other time for me to think about folding.
