$600 CPPT Live Hand- 30bb spot

About 125 left out of 400 runners. 20k starting stack. My stack here is about 50k which was my peak. Notable stacks on table- 1 guy has over 200k, 1 guy has about 150k, the rest have 60-100k and 1-2 players with less than 50k.

800-1600bb, 200 ante- 9 handed. Last hand at this level going to break. 1-2k next.

UTG+1 stack of about 150k raises to 5k. A big raise but isn't a huge shocker in these tourneys. A lot of the recreational middle aged guys do that often in this venue. Probably fear of flopping. This guy was an ok player, not really good how we define it around here. He got lucky a few times to build that stack, but wasn't playing too bad.

Folds to me in HJ and I peel KK. I pop it to 14.8k leaving myself about 35k behind which I intend on getting in on most boards.

Flop: J 8 2 rainbow.

He checks, I bet 16k. He huffs and puffs and calls reluctantly.

Turn: 4

He checks. I rip the rest ~19k and he calls and shows JJ. Sighhhhh. Nice Hollywood on the flop bro. I flipped over my KK so fast certain I was ahead only to be showered and take the withered drive home.

Obviously a cooler based on results but any way to play this differently? I'm thinking I could've ripped it pre-flop? Is my stack large enough to go for 3-bet like I did or should I just have ripped it? I feel like if I rip he's gonna fold hands like 77 and AQ where as he's probably calling my 3-bet since he had a big stack and was a little loose. I actually considered just flatting him at the time, I don't think anyone behind was calling since the 5k was such a large open and my flat woulda looked so strong.

Based on the action I feel my flop play was standard and the jam on the turn was mandatory but feel free to suggest alternatives.

Thanks!

Don't think ur play pre was bad. When he rolled his eyes and huffed and puffed I would have been fearing the worst, usually when guys do that, especially the older guys its a sign of strength. You should bet a little less maybe pre, and then ur continuation bet would be a bit smaller, still hard for u to check back turn and fold river tho, but if his hollywooding on flop makes u think he has u beat then I suppose u can check back turn fold river maybe

Yeah the tell is pretty significant, and could induce hero folds. Still you're pretty shallow, so you have to be so so sure to be beat to fold. Up to you to decide if you're confident enough in your live reads to make this kind of folds. But indeed, the tell is one of the most relevant for weak players.

The line is quite ok against this kind of player. Don't worry too much about the result, the only way you can fold is based on the live read.

stacking off with KK and 30bb is 100% okay in this spot. with such a big raise from utg i might just rip KK here pre flop, i think v calls with almost his whole range because i dont think he is ever raising light utg to 5k.
