$330 MTT Live- 6 handed ICM spot?
In the money here, was a small field only paid 6. Stacks are tight and blinds are high. Getting gambley with 30min levels
Blinds 8k-16k/ 2k ante
Approximate stacks:
Villain 1- 400k
Villain 2- 275k
Hero 275k
Villain 3 260k
Villain 4 125k
Villain 5 100k
Approximate payouts:
1st $5400
2nd $2700
3rd $1600
5th $1200
6th $785
Action:
Folds to hero on button, I open 35k with K9ss
Villain 1 in SB calls
BB folds
Reads on villain- Ok player, held chip leader most of tourney. Was a tad on the LAG side but wasn't aggro enough to really play the style well. About 25-30 years old.
Pot 98k
Flop 9h 2d 3d
Villain 1 check
Hero bets 40k
Villain 1 check-raises to 110k
Hero?
I believe I did see him check raise out of the blinds earlier in the tourney with a strong hand. Don't recall details unfortunately.
Another consideration for this hand is the fact I just doubled up the hand before this when the button opened and I jammed 88 from the sb he calls AK and I held.

Bump. Anyone?
He probably had a flush draw? or higher PP
We're in the money, villain is probably not flatting pocket pairs 10+, he is probably check raising a 9, a flush draw, or is just c/r because he thinks you are opening super wide from the button. This could also just be a board he c/r from the blinds often. Its hard to rep much on this board, but you actually have TP 2nd K.
This is a fold or shove decision, and since you said he is a little on the LAG side, I think it leans towards a shove. Especially, since he just doubled you up he could be tilting, but that is something you would need to pick up on your own. I probably would've jammed and prayed to be against a worse 9. I would like to hear opposing thoughts though!! Results of hand?
Thanks. Note that it wasn't him who doubled me up the hand before though. Agree it's fold or shove. I'll wait for another reply or two before posting results.
ohhhh I misread. I doubt that shove affected his perception of your ranges at all. I look forward to seeing. Im going with two overs and a flush draw especially out of the sb
TP2K and your image from the last hand,
His possible range and your estimated equity against that,
Push it in and cross the fingers!
I put some sums through an ICM calculator and some guesswork with a range calculator...
More or less, unless you're content to ladder up a place or two, I struggled to find a situation where it was wrong to shove.
Appreciate the feedback. I decided that shoving was the best option and he called and had AA. Good game.
It felt kind of spewy since I just got those chips. Didn't know if there were any ICM implications to consider. The only way out of this would be to fold pre-flop IMO. It would be very nitty but not unreasonable since I just won this stack the hand before and K9 isn't exactly a big hand.
I did feel I had an edge over the rest of the players. It was just getting too shallow and gambley. Overall I'm happy with my play.
I don't think you should ever be folding K9s on the button, like ever. Way too nitty, and exploitable.
Its just one of those situations you cant help. That's a weird way to play aces though. GG i guess.
i did not read this through yet, but being an "ICM" spot, lolz at a bigger pay jump from 6th to 5th than 5th to 4th, is that correct?
I made an error and didn't include 4th place. It was something like this:
1st $5400
2nd $2700
3rd $1600
4th $1250
5th $1050
6th $785
And yes I have noticed some very weird payouts in these smaller live tourneys where the jumps are inconsistent. There may be no ICM considerations here really but figured I'd throw it out there...
well, i hope to look at this hand later, but there are certainly ICM considerations. Not knowing that, first and foremost, is a leak. you have two guys more than doubled, with another two guys around the same stack as yours. we are certainly losing "real" expectation if we are playing for chip expectation. there is definitely an ICM tax on the chips we commit or potentially commit versus this villain, the chip leader.
