1000$ Live Tournament: Hand Question
Hi so i am fairly new to Tournament Poker and had quite a basic hand that I am not sure of in a 300 man field 100$ tournament with 120 players remaining.
Blinds 1200/2400 with 400 Ante
I have 32 000 Chips and am dealt AJo utg.
Is it best to shove here ? Raise/fold ? or Fold ? I am interested if this is ever a fold, i am guessing shoving here is totally standard with 9 10 11 BB but im wanderring with 12-15 bb if a raise fold might be better ?
I am fortunate to know my opponents relatively well: I can confidently say that BTN, SB, BB only call with:
AQ+ 99+
Thanks in Advance

i think the problem is that with this stack size it is kid of problematic to raise fold. If you shove this stack you dont give the opponents the opportunity to shove their hands with like 30-50% equity against your hand (hands like KQ, QJ, 22-88, etc.), which might be worse than winning the blinds 100% of the time. Thats why I would prefer shoving over raising.
Still there might be some exception when raising might be preferable (villains 3bet really tight or villains are passive preflop, etc.)
I would depend my decision on blind level time left and blind increasement, places paid, tendency to steal blinds by people to my right and possibility of stealing the blinds at the table myself if Id shove here or fold.
I love this response, well put. The only way I would respond differently is that I'm a little more comfortable shoving with the 13 bits here. Not delighted, but almost always shoving. The factors you mentioned are bang on. Winning the blinds>occasionally getting it in as a slight favourite
The deeper we are, the more of a raise/x it becomes, based on the factors you mentioned. Fyi, at tough tables I just jam my whole range here
Border hand, Im folding if Im close to ITM but with all those many players left and no ICM complications It's def the bottom of my open shoving range for 13 bigs; I don't think Im ever open raising here which such hand flopping so bad; so we got few reasons to shove :)
