Hey everyone,

We're happy to announce the launch of our second From The Ground Up series here at Run It Once. This series is close to 18 hours of MTT content from Essential coach Owen Shiels. Please leave any questions or feedback that you have about the course in this forum and we'll be doing our best to get back to everyone.

You can find the course here: From The Ground Up: MTT Edition.

Nice addition !
I snap bought it; no need to check if it's a quality content, as I'm sure it's up to par with his other videos.
I'm sure to get the price back easily on a few dozens MTTs, as I have some serious leaks to plug and some concepts that I don't apply well enough.

Thanks !

:-)

Hey Guys.... like what I've viewed to date. Can you have Owen drop the SPR sheet sheet into my message box... Bestest, Vaughn

Zooss123 5 years ago

Hey guys,

I'm looking forward to buy this course. However, I'd like to ask if there are ranges (to download or view) included in this course.

Best regards!

james 5 years ago

Hey Zooss,

There aren't ranges to download but there are several lessons that cover ranges in detail.

Hey guys, some feedback on the package would be much appreciated. I want to buy it but i wanna make sure its worth 150 bucks.
Thanks

Robert Johnson 5 years ago

150 bucks is a steal.
I'm about 50 % into it and skimmed throught the rest.
Very thorough and well organized course.
Plus you have solid homework at the end of most videos to make you think further.
You can't go wrong and should recoup the price very soon.

Hello, I'm considering purchase of this course but I'm not familiar with the author. Could you provide info about author's current stakes which he plays and ROI, or recent results?

Mikey Stotz 5 years ago

Owen has been a long-time coach with Run It Once and an even longer-time MTT grinder. He plays under the SN ozzieowen. Here is his pocket5's

You can check out some of his Essential videos for free for the next couple of weeks prior to purchasing the course if you like to see if his style resonates with you.

allinwlk 5 years ago

Bit of feedback: Owen uses various pieces of software to help illustrate his examples during the course. Some of these have quite a high barrier to entry (or steep learning curve) when you download the trials etc. which can be fairly intimidating. Would you consider adding a study tools module mid way through this to aid people with the homework and self study?

I know I've found myself struggling to choose study tools as there seem to be so many out there, so perhaps even an "essentials" list would be a good thing to share?

Thanks allinwlk, we'll have a chat about it and see what we can do.

best MTT pokercourse price/reward out there, by a mile! I only bought it because it was so cheap. Exceptionally well produced and well articulated, logically structured. I have spend a lot of money on nearly all courses out there. Just wished this one was the first i ever bought. When you truly master everything that is explained here you know you can advance to a higher level of poker.
Well done!

Hi Folks.
I've been on RIO for a while, but have only started taking Poker seriously since lockdown came into force. I'll be honest, I only started playing Poker again as I usually earn some side income betting on Horse Racing and Football, which I can't do currently. However, I have since become extremely passionate about playing and learning Poker.

I've watched the first half dozen of the course and its been very good so far. It has a nice balance of not for dummies or the advanced player and after watching some of Owen's previous videos anyway, he comes across as a good guy who is easy to follow in his presentations.

$150 may seem steep at first for anyone. But the way I thought was. How much is $150 when it should potentially help you make much more than that if you take the course seriously.

The only downside I have with Owen is that he is from Newcastle and I'm from Sunderland!

Hi everyone!
I have just started the course and I saw Owen working with a SPR Sheet... Can we get this to try different sizes and find out best quality strategies?
Its kind of hard to made my own sheet in the beginning.
Thanks!

I just bought this course a couple days ago and really looking forward to improving my game in MTT's. I feel the $150 investment is worth it. I know i blow off way more $$$ than that doing the wrong things. Been playing poker for a while but just recreation and i want to take it more serious and put in the work to get better. The one problem i have is staying focused on material and absorbing it. Don't know if its just me or need to pick better times to study. Any thoughts on helping me absorb the content and more focused?

I would try not studying when you're tired and trying to break it up into smaller pieces rather than trying to watch big chunks of the course in one sitting. Generally, your brain needs some time to digest what you've just learned anyways.

Hi everyone,
I'm considering buying this course but was just wondering how basic or advanced it is? I've been playing for a few months so don't want a course that is for complete beginners. However, the course looks pretty in depth. Can anyone help?

Mikey Stotz 4 years, 8 months ago

Despite the title, the course isn't meant to take true beginners "from the ground up." There is definitely some level of poker fluency expected and I think if you've been playing for a few months that you're the right demographic. You can have a scroll through the video descriptions and get a feel for the topics covered but if you have a basic understanding of the game that you'll undoubtedly get something out of it.

KINGDINGALING 4 years, 8 months ago

Does it come with ranges yet?

Mikey Stotz 4 years, 8 months ago

The course is not accompanied by charts or ranges. Though not specific for this course, Peter Clarke explains why he was hesitant to create detailed ranges and PDF's for his course here:
https://www.runitonce.com/courses-forum/bb-defense-chart/

We agreed with Peter and felt that the same applied to Owen's course. We felt it's far more important to understand how and why a range is created rather than be provided with countless charts that are meant to be memorized which we believe Owen does here.

Hi
Just started the course and really enjoying it. If I have questions should I post in here or start new threads?
For example (I know this is really simple and I'm sure I know the answer but would like confirmation being a beginner) - when calculating SPR Owen states that it is stack size / pot, is this our stack size or the effective stack size should they be different?
Many thanks,
Johnathan.

james 4 years, 7 months ago

Hey CountDuckula,

Glad to hear that you're enjoying the course so far. If you have a specific strategy question, it's best to start a new thread. If you have a question about the course itself (cost, length, themes etc.), this thread is likely best.

As far as your question, you would always use effective stack size in the example that you're giving. Think of it this way, SPR is basically giving you an indication of how deep you are in a hand versus an opponent. If you have 100 big blinds but your opponent only has 10 big blinds, the additional 90 big blinds that you have doesn't really factor into the hand.

Hopefully that reinforces what you already thought.

Hi everybody,
Would it be possible to put a comment section below any video like the other Run It Once training videos? I think it would be more practical than open a new thread for any question we might have.

james 4 years, 7 months ago

Hey Gae,

Due to the fact that courses contain so many individual videos and that people purchase them over the course of different months/years, we decided that it made more sense to keep all questions in our forums. It just makes it easier for coaches and other members to see them and respond.

If you have questions related to specific topics discussed in videos, feel free to link to the video in question and provide a time stamp though and people should be able to provide some solid answers.

I'm guessing that since you have released a bunch more FTGUs they are selling pretty well - but there's no discussion in the forums. Is there any way to guide people to discuss their homeworks on here a bit more, or something like that? Its a lot easier to stick to something you are doing with other people.

Gae80 4 years, 1 month ago

Hi reetgeist,
We could open a Homeworks topic and share our work and thoughts in it.
What do you think about it?

allinwlk 4 years, 1 month ago

https://once.run/2TrnjE2

there is the RIO discord, seems pretty dead but we could revive it if a few joined and got some regular discussion going

Gae80 4 years, 1 month ago

I'm no expert on Discord but why not? How does it work? Can we open the group ourselves?

reetgeist 4 years, 1 month ago

Just joined that discord, seems as dead as you said it is.

It would be pretty easy to put up a basic discord chat group if there were a few of us to use it

reetgeist 4 years, 1 month ago

The homeworks topic would work too. I think some of the homeworks leave you scrabbling in the dark a bit (yeah, lets just go through the entirety of postflop bet sizing as a homework COUGH COUGH), would be nice to know where other people are going and to see if I'm moving too far off base.
