Will AI ruin online poker?

Curious how others view how AI is changing the game. As computers and our understanding of the mathematics of poker improve I wonder if this will ruin online poker over the next few years. I would think for a game as "simple" as NL it for sure would... maybe even PLO. How do others view this looming doomsday scenario?

It sure will one day, but I don't think it'll happen any time soon. Unfortunately, computation power is getting stronger every year so one day it really must happen.

Online-Poker is declining rapidly anyways. But that has different reasons as bots are illegal and study programs like solvers are not AI technically. The end is near!

Depends. If the industry is interested in preserving the game and not only profits until the masses revolution/leave. Then an equal proficiency in detecting bot/ai play should evolve, as computers get stronger so should the ability to detect. Humans will never play like ai/bots

I play bots every day.Merge banned my account for beating bots and not telling them I knew they were bots. They said I was cheating cause I knew they were bots and not reporting them. Go figure. I can beat most of them but there is a few I can't beat on ACR that have much more aggro style very unpredictable that make crazy hero calls. They also mix in limping pre and fold to raise about 90% of the time. But the bot puts me in a lot of tough spots and hero call way better then the other bots. My guess is they will get tougher as years go by where they wont be beatable and you will see them every where and take over online poker. Why I moved over to PLO. There is bots playing PLO too but they aren't as good as the NLH bots. Once you start beating the bots they sit out wont play you no more I guess until they get a update haha.

It seems inevitable that once computers become advanced enough online poker will be in trouble. I guess the question is how serious and whether sites will be advanced enough to keep them at bay. Or if the bots will be unexploitable as far as being distinguished from a human. What if the sites make you give permission to monitor your system while playing on their site? Could that be a thing? I have no idea how current bots function. I just know they exist.

Then there's live play. Once technology reaches the point that we can install it in our bodies the level playing field will be at risk unless casinos implement measures to detect/disable these devices.

Shit's getting trippy. It will be interesting for sure!

It's for sure a challenge to be dealt with, but there are ways to deal with it. Currently, the top NLHE programs are already capable outperforming top humans, so it's all about prevention of these bots to poker rooms. One way I can think of is making all players upload a verifiable ID copy with real time video calls for confirmation. Once caught botting they would be legally liable and will be pursued in courts, as well as blacklisted from other poker rooms. On the other hand, something like AI assisted huds will be tougher to deal with
