Where to start?

I'm an 18 year old senior in high school and I'm looking for a place to start in poker. I have played a bit online but with the place online poker is currently I'm not too confident with it. There is a casino about 15 minutes away from me that has daily tournaments but their structure is very luck based. They have a cash game as well but it is limit and the blinds are a bit high for my bank roll. Where do you guys suggest I start in my poker career?

Hey man, I'm 20. I started really getting into poker my freshman year of highschool (2nd semester). I first just started with friends playing 5c/10c cash and moved up. My friend began the poker club, and we also began venturing to various pub run freerolls (all ages allowed) around the town. Once I got more into the game, I started off subscribing to various sites like this one, and watching many videos.

I recommend if you want to play anywhere online in the U.S. you should play on WPN or Merge...and deposit around 50$ just to get a feel of it. Most likely you will go broke, but think of it as paying for a few lessons. Try out the cash tables, and sit n gos...and maybe splash around in a few dollar tournaments. Mainly, get a feel for it.

Right now I am moving up in the live scene, and playing 50c/1$..if you need any help I can try to guide you. Just pm me, good luck.

If your not in the U.S. then I'd say Pokerstars is the way to go to get experience. Not sure what type of games your looking for: Hold'em, PLO, other?
Hold'em has a lot of material to learn from available for free but as a result the games are a little tougher.
PLO on the other hand is still developing so if you don't have any experience in most games then going there could prove a very good investment for the games in the future (assuming it continues to grow).
Overall, I agree with Adam that you should try anything and everything to see what you like. That way, you're more likely to enjoy the journey :D

Please get an education (or something similar career-wise) no matter what happens with poker. It's tough out there now. Poker might not work out for you.....or you might be great at it and just get bored and wanted something else down the line. Even if you do succeed in poker, it's much harder to finish school later in life. Treat poker as a "Bonus" or Part-time job at most. I believe Phil Galfond had a similar opinion in one of his recent blog posts.

I suggest watching as many videos as possible and continue to stay current with videos even if you do find some early success (I wasn't able to do that and became a break even player recently).
