THE GRIND
This year I'm going to be consistent with 10k+ steps a day rain or shine. You can see my heart health is getting a little better as I achieve this daily goal. By the end of the year I want to be able to maintain a weight of 175 - 185 lbs, but expect to achieve this by May of this year.
Starting from the bottom at $1/$3 for live cash and will work my way up the stakes as the year goes on. I played over a million hands online the last 2 years 2020-2022 with stakes ranging from 25NL - 200NL fast fold mostly. We will see how an online pro can do in the live environment and how the skills transition. In all fairness I was playing live for a living 2018-2020 (pre covid), so I'm used to it.
Will update at least once a week as different events and milestones are achieved.

STAY HARD!
Bets of luck, but starting at 1/3 has not got to be fun lol
let's gooooo rit !!!
Good luck!
Achieve your goals
Biggest pot of the week.
Open AA, CO calls, BTN 3bet, SB 4bet, Hero cold calls, CO calls, BTN all in, SB all in, Hero all in. CO all in. (four ways). Board: J636K. SB says "I have the winner" and we already know what that is...
Some short-term goals I have for January is to play 200 hours of live poker. I'm only about 71 hours in, so need to grind about 8hrs every day for the rest of the month. Had some family over earlier in the month and took about 4 days off and now playing catch up on those hours. Other goal is to complete 300k+ steps with a daily goal of 10K minimum. Then finally is to cook more. Which I am not a cook at all, so starting out with some basics of cooking more meat and trying out different cuts. Watch some YouTube videos and try and replicate. Weight loss is ok so far, down about 3 lbs. overall, but not worried about the short-term results of this. I want to see where I'm at end of the month. The goal was to lose about 5 lbs. each month, so not expecting any drastic results. Just remain consistent.
Meat will give you protein with not too much fat! (at least the good cuts) Here in my country it's almost a tradition "asado" were we cook it with coal/firewood so im more than used to eat lots of meat.
Hope it helps for the weight loss,a healthier style of eating and to make it easier to stay lot of hours sitting at the table in the live environment :)
Solid start to the year! What time of day are you usually getting to the casino?
Its been late starts mostly, after 3pm is usually the earliest. Trying to go earlier, but other things keep coming up. Some times I don't get there until 10pm and end up grinding graveyard.
Things are going pretty well. Was a bit of a slow start to the year, but slow and steady wins the race. Fascinating poll below for red or blue. What would you choose?
Fun hand from last week.
2 limpers, hero SB AsQc raises 5bb. BB and both limpers call and we go four ways to the flop.
Flop (20bb) JT5cc
check x4
Turn (20bb) JT5cc-Kx
check x4
River (20bb) JT5-K-T
Hero AQ checks again, BB checks,
EP limper bets 3bb, CO calls, Hero raises to 23bb, BB folds, and now EP says "I don't think you have the straight. You don't have the ten. I'm all in" and ships it for about 85bb. CO folds.
Hero 62bb to win total pot of 193bb after I call. Easy call but how often am I not shown a boat here?
Good luck! :D
January recap.
Exercise was consistent with 10k steps+ a day.
Heart rate since the 11th has stayed in the 60s.
Poker win rate 8.5bb/hr.
Towards the end of this month I lost 4 out of 5 sessions, which brought my hourly down quite a bit. Both of my biggest losing sessions are from a lack of A-game performance. Which led me to start working on Eliot's A-Game Master Class again. Two of the principles from the course are focusing on what you can control and taking accountability for your actions.
I have been getting late starts each day either from playing late at night or staying up and watching tv. This leads to poor sleep (6.5hr avg) for the month and a 76 rating on my Fitbit. This needs to be increased to around 7.5hr avg for me personally. I only had "good" sleep rating 3 days entire month above 80. This will be one of my key focuses today and through February. Poor sleep also led to some poor diet choices revolving around sugary drinks.
One thing that leads me to poor sleep is prioritizing hours grinding over having a healthy schedule. There are many days where I'm finishing my steps around 10pm or finishing getting my 6-8 hours of grinding in for the "day" around 3-5am at the casino. There might be a week or two in February where I fall short on 40 hours and sacrifice these hours to try and be more consistent with my schedule. It's almost like a punishment & reward system. I punish myself by making a little less money in terms of lack of volume, but reward my sleep and health as a higher priority.
One session towards the end of this month stands out the most to me as lack of discipline and A-game performance. First mistake was playing past my cutoff time because I was stuck a buy-in or so. I was planning on leaving no later than midnight, but I ended up staying until 3:30am! This had a big ripple effect. One hand in particular where I opened LJ with JTo in a loose splashy game, which can be -EV being OOP with a weak off suit broadway. HJ & CO cold call, BTN now min 3bets (drunk guy slurring his words), which is one of the reasons I opened the hand in the first place, to play more hands vs this guy. Ended up calling the min 3bet and goes 4 ways OOP to all 3 players. Flop T94r. Hero decides to donk lead 1/3 like a fish to "find out where I'm at." Tired and playing my C or B game at the time and just not thinking straight. One caller and now BTN raises a little over 3x. "I can't fold top pair to a drunk guy" I think to myself. When in reality I got the information I wanted that screams I am beat but lack of A-game performance led me to continue. Turn T94-J. BINGO! I thought. Hero checks to let the drunk guy keep barreling. Villain bets about 60% pot and now I XRAI for less than a min raise in this unnecessary bloated pot. This hand I end up losing to a set of 4s (story checks out). I could chalk this up to a "cooler" and tell my friends I lost top two pair vs a set but in reality this is just a A-game performance leak that shows lack of patience and forced aggression. Eliot says he likes to think of Patience as a skill not a virtue. Where if I stuck to my standard preflop ranges I wouldn't open JTo from the LJ, also I would use a smaller opening size. There are just so many mistakes in one hand where I need to reflect on this as a hard lesson learned on proper sleep, sticking to a healthy schedule, and playing my A-game at all times.
HH#RunGood
Open QQ UTG8, UTG7 min 3bets (1.9x), BB cold calls, Hero 4bets 4x, UTG7 calls, BB folds.
Flop Qd-Td-4d
Hero 1/3, UTG7 calls.
Turn Qd-Td-4d-Kc
Hero 62%, UTG7 folds AsAc face up.
Respect to villain for folding this in a live game and also trapping me pretty good here. On a 863 board I am going to lose quite a bit of money. Not to mention we are 200bb+ effective this hand. Villain had a pretty aggro image in my mind where on a low flop I would easily give him credit for JJ/TT type hands and probably stack off.
HH#VegasNits
MP opens 4x, CO & BTN call. BB folds but cards get exposed as they are tossed forwards towards the dealer. Ad5d. Dealer "Are you serious?"
I think this is more common than people think based on some of the showdowns and comments I get about my own play.
For example CO will open, BTN flats, Hero squeeze KQo, CO folds AQo. Other times I will iso roughly 7bb over 2 limpers from the SB ATo and hear comments at showdown "You raised with that?" Lastly I get some weird looks like I'm some maniac when I 3bet QTs/J10s rather than cold calling the 2bet. Maybe if you stop opening 4-5x I'll 3bet a little less often.
Will update again next Monday and hopefully can share some progress made with my schedule regarding sleep and volume played earlier in the day.
Eminem - Higher (Lyrics)
Remaining consistent with my daily steps. There were a couple of days where I was traveling a bit and the weather was cold and raining but pushed through and got it done. Most of the steps that day I got from playing with my nephew and pushing him around in a cart like a race car around the store.
Took a small downswing end of January and beginning of this month. Got 3 way all in KK vs AK vs QQ, where AK won. Most memorable hand I raise preflop AJh, bet flop, turn, and river where river guy only had about $60 left into a pot of $180, but I thought maybe he would fold out some 75s 65s 43s 55 44 type hands. Typically I don't want to bluff holding 2 hearts here, but decided to fire 3 and close my eyes. Villain called after about 30 seconds and I said "you're good I missed." He said "I missed too" and rolls off Jc5c. I apologized for the "slow roll" as I didn't think I would ever get called by worse here.

This week I will continue to work on my schedule as I try and get things done earlier in the day. Was able to wake up at 9am today and get some gym and studying done. Going to run one errand to get a smoothie then I'll be off to work after. I want to try and maintain 9am wake up every day this week compared to my normal 1pm or later. Going to be a little tough remaining consistent with this as big changes in sleep are hard to maintain compared to gradual 15 minute changes. Just have to wake up in the morning and really want to achieve success for the day.
A-game master class I worked my way through the 7 principles and now I'm on the power of vision. This is one of the most important parts of the course. Talks about unplugging yourself from the matrix and what society wants you to become and striving to be the best version of yourself. How people say poker players don't provide anything to society but if you are able to achieve the best version of yourself then you are able to help society a bit more. For me personally I will just look to become my best self and help some immediate family for the time being.
MOPP E19 - Naoufel "Bonk30" Smires on using poker as a driving force for personal growth
About half way through this podcast as I listen on my drive to the casino. It has helped some with encouragement on being more social at the tables and how being a professional player is not just about making money, but entertaining the rec players who are there to have fun. If the game is boring and quiet you have to ask yourself are you just complaining about it or are you doing something to make it better? Be present at the table and enjoy the journey and characters around you who each have their own story. Be a better professional and develop more soft skills.

David Goggins - How To Get Up Early Every Day
Finally listened to this and reminder to oneself to be proud of what you accomplish, even the little things.
10k steps per day is not easy, This is my step count last month but it's only because a friend came visit me and I'm showing him around the town - it's the highest in last 18 months.
Would be great to see you keep it up along this year! GL!
Haven't broke the chain yet, 10k+ every day this year so far! Will update more on Monday.
Great stuff - will follow up your journey brother :)
How to start Grinding
Based on 2,000 hours a year I am currently 31 hours behind schedule! I did well in January for hours, but ran into a lot of distractions this month and put me far behind schedule. I'll need to do three 50 hour weeks in order to get back on pace. This is going to be difficult with valentines day tomorrow and then traveling for a baby shower this weekend. Going to have to put in a lot of hours Mon, Wed, Thur, and Sunday this week.
On a more positive side I am down 6 lbs or so on the year, getting closer to my first milestone. Diet or lack of healthier eating has played a major part in not achieving my mile stone. Too many processed carbs, sugar, late night meals, etc. Haven't felt ready to take this plunge yet and give it a 100% of my effort to achieve this. I'll keep staying consistent with my exercise every day and eventually I'll make some healthier choices. I ate at Wendy's once this week, which I regretted as I ate it. 1) You are spending $9-$12 on a meal where the grocery store you can actually buy quite a bit of food for the same price. I even got a 3 pack of New York Steaks for $14 the other day (On sale $16 off :-) Much better deal than going to Wendy's. 2) As I ate it they had a slither of lettuce on it. The tomatoes you could barely identify, and lettuce might as well of been a small leaf.
More steaks more dates!
Crazy hand from last night.
BB had bet Q9o flop & turn and then checked the river. Other guy is shorter stack and while its a small pot its quite a shocking hand. Short stack shoves river for about 120% pot and BB pretty much snap called Q9o. He is on my right and tables Q9o and short stack shows JT for effective nuts. I said, "You know you don't have a straight right?" He said, "I know but he made a face on the river so I thought he missed too."
Good lesson in this hand on adjusting your strategy to frying fish.
Happy Valentines to all this week and good luck on your journeys.
Good luck for this year mate RunItTw1ce
I haven't put in much volume this month but getting some fantastic results. I think mostly running well, but coming off a period where I thought I was running extremely poorly, so that helps. I was sick for a couple days, so I didn't play. Made a recovery and then had to travel for a baby shower, so I was out of town for a couple days where I didn't get much sleep. When I got back, I came down sick again, maybe from being around a bunch of kids. But still getting my steps in every day. There was one day said I had 9200 but was some weird glitch on the Fitbit because I know I had over 10k by 6pm! Then when I got home and went to bed (2am) I seen the Fitbit was still counting steps past midnight. When I reset it, I was missing about 6k steps.
Anyways milestone update as you can see in the image above, I am officially below 200 lbs. Still working on my diet, this week is to lay off energy drinks and cut back on caffeine and sugar. I've been close to this weight a couple of times where I would hit like 200.5 then rise back up again. Looking to keep the weight off and keep going lower to 175-185lb range will be my main goal this year.
Back on the grind a little later tonight. I bought some groceries, so will mainly be eating some chicken salad with: Rotisserie chicken, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, boiled eggs, and romaine. Maybe add a little cheese, but mostly want to avoid this.
Last but not least other mile stone was breaking the $10k mark for these live games that people say are unbeatable due to the rake. I hear the wildest stories from $2/$5 players saying they can't beat $1/$3 game because they can't put anyone on a hand. Even dealers say $1/$3 hardest game in the room. I don't know where they get their strategy from, but if you can't beat a face up game, there is something wrong with your strategy. You might not be able to put them on a hand preflop, but players have certain tendencies post flop that make them a bit easier to read. Don't want to get into strategy though.
Happy President's Day
Hey brother - decided to follow your path and do an avg 10k step this year too! Feb completes, let's see if I can keep this up :P
Thanks for the inspiration!
Good luck. After a while I think it starts to become more natural. You will find how how much time people actually waste sitting around doing nothing. Doing a 5minute walk each hour is all you really need to accomplish this goal. Watched Chris Primers video today where he gave a quote for thinking of the few as many.
5min walk is about 500 steps if you walk fast.
15 min is 1500
30 min 3000
1hr is about 6,000 steps
1 hr a day for a month is 180,000 steps
1hr a day for a year is over 2 million steps
How many calories will you burn with 2 million steps?
You got this! Look forward to hearing about a 3 month progress report. Compare your heart rate and grade how you feel before and after. Makes a huge difference for me personally.
Staying consistent with daily exercise. I am at 876,530 steps overall and will be at 1,000,000 around the end of the month for 25% of my yearly journey complete.
Yesterday was day one of trying a new schedule for a healthier life style that has a more positive impact on my life, not just me but for my GF as well. When I was working a "real job" in the past I had a 10am - 7pm schedule but also lots of over time. Trying to get back to this schedule where I am waking up at a decent hour, eating dinner at a decent hour, and just managing my time a lot more proficiently.
For a good solid month or so I was grinding graveyard going to the casino around 7-10pm and leaving 4am-7am range, then I wouldn't wake up until 2pm-4pm and do it all over again. I have to say the graveyard games are over rated from what I heard. There are less than a handful of drunk games I have played in that have been worth staying late and feeling blah the next day.
My schedule roughly looks like this now. Wake up 8am go to the gym, freshen up, and study. 10am - 7pm head to work and grind 7 of the 9 hours. Doing this 6 days a week for around 40 hours a week. Any exercise, study, errands etc that I can't get done in the morning I can do them after work. When I was doing more graveyard sessions I had to make sure I would get exercise, study, errands etc all done before heading to work because there is just no time after to finish them. I think I'll enjoy this new schedule.
One video that shows importance of a strong mental game and consistent strategy for poker. Also very satisfying to watch someone I view as a troll lose heaps of money. If you want to see the full stream on why he was called down so light can watch here. When someone starts 3 betting T2s, 73s, J5o etc they just end up with tons of air in their range. Can't just "move up stakes where they respect you raises." Check your ego at the door.
Also for all those low stake live players, tip your dealers! Tired of dealers dealing slow because players are not tipping. They earn their living off tips, so if everyone tips $1 for their winning hands the games will run much smoother. I even played a bomb pot where one guy didn't want to play, I threw $5 in front of him and told him its a discount. Another player did the same thing, essentially paying for him to play the bomb pot. He ended up winning the bomb pot and still didn't tip. Same player eventually bust and criticizes the player that gave him a bad beat on what a terrible call he made. Another hand he lost earlier in the session as short stack where guy called his 3bet 44 and called his flop shove on T73. Short stack lost with AJo and he criticized him for making a bad call. If you are not going to tip the dealers and going to criticize people you are playing against just stay home and play online. Stop taking the joy out of the game for everyone else.
Another player yesterday was losing and started wasting time where people started calling clock on him and he would let it run down and until his hand was dead. Very annoying to play against these people with huge mental issues. He was doing things like looking at the action in front of him, looking at one of his cards, looking at the action again. Looking at the other card. Looking at the players behind him. Looking at both cards. Then folding. Don't need to go through an entire routine every hand and slow the game down. Its not going to help you win. Maybe he gets joy of making others miserable. Luckily he busted rather quickly and didn't rebuy. If I didn't have 30 minutes left in my session would of just table changed.
Keep it going there brother. I am looking forward to the 2/5 part of this journey followed by the 5/10. Just noticed your online volume for 2021-2022. So solid.

Man i m in Vegas too…now playing st bellagio…if u want we can meet
On a small downswing or rather experiencing some variance. I'm trusting the process and the strategy I have implemented that has gotten me this far. Trying my best not to deviate. The games have gotten way better than they were in January or February. March Madness really brings out the gamble in people.
Two hands yesterday (hero not involved) but I'll use player A and player B for this example.
Board is K2345.
Checks down to the river
Player A bets $20, Player B XR to $40, Player A 3bets to $80, Player B shoves all in $200 with A7. "I have the straight." They just don't understand...
Example 2. Player B again bets $40 on the turn and shoves for almost $200 on the river. board is T749 (player B turns straight with 86s). Player A with JJ calls. River brings the 4 liner and player B shoves all in. Player A calls.
I'm using these examples because when games are this good it becomes almost depressing losing any session. I have now only won 2 out of my last 7 sessions. Important to remember what type of sample this is in reality. If an online player told you they were the best player in the pool and showed you a 10,000 hand sample you would smile and realize they have no clue how small of a sample that is. Then probably educate them that even 100k hand sample is small. Of these 7 session its less than 1400 hands in live poker. When you are grinding live poker you have to be willing to go through this process and just enjoy it. I feel like I am playing my A-game but if I truly believed I shouldn't lose these sessions to these players than I am a fool. I can't control the results. I believe I am playing my A- game throughout this stretch.
On a more positive note one person I helped learn my strategy that he implements online has been doing very well. Its micro stakes, but I'm very pleased to see my coaching is paying off for him. Not really coaching but free advice I have given him to beat his games. Trusting the process and being consistent with ranges, bet sizes, and overall strategy. Not deviating from small samples and just continue to put in volume. There was a mindset shift of being a crusher and playing perfect poker to being a consistent winner that is better for the mental game. Knowing you are losing little to no EV by simplifying your strategy.
Round of applause for Reece
Gman Twitter response
Lot of live poker drama that I think Gman sheds some reality on. I hope for those of you who read his response and the comments below can see what a compulsive liar Nik Airball is and what podcast and streams do to protect their bottom line. These circus line ups that are set up are made to protect the recreationalist from going bust too fast. Put too many pros in the line ups and recs lose their bankroll. No recs means no game as Gman said. Once in a while there will be a million dollar cash game where pros will battle with 1-2 recs mixed in that can usually hold their own given a small sample of hands. But these poker streams are running 5 days a week.
I'm a big Gman fan and also he is a former RIO coach for those who didn't know. I think this paragraph sums up quite a bit of all the drama.
A couple more things about Nik Air ball. He goes from crushing the stream for 1.1 million to possibly being a losing player because he wants to stroke his ego and claim to be the king of LA. The trackings are not including the $170k he lost last night or the $400k he lost to Blank Check Ben who is supposed to be his friend but he insisted on talking shit to him and challenging him to a heads up match that he lost. Now he wants to challenge other players to heads up and still hasn't learned his lesson.
$825k pot against Blank Check Ben
I honestly thought he was going to cry when he lost this pot. Happens when you think you are the king of LA and don't know how to play solid poker. 3bets 98o in a 50/100 game from 300 to 1k. Calls a cold 4bet of $5k from a player sitting on a $60k stack. Then gets coolered post flop. His luck is finally running out and he is starting to feel the pain of playing terrible poker.
Good luck buddy - one of your best assets is the amount of volume you put in
Yo bud - results for March. Putting up some more cardio this month. LFG!
Love to see it!! Since doing consistent workouts this year I have had only one session grinding where I tilted and played off my usual style. Opening larger or over playing top pair. Still did my cardio that day but went in late and just so many factors led to a tilting session. Thankfully only lost a little over a buyin.
What I find is that a lot of days we dont feel like doing anything and rely on some chemical boost like coffee to wake us up. But once im on the treadmill and legs get moving, blood gets flowing, I wonder why I havent been doing this all these years.
Keep up the great work. Summer is just around the corner.
Very true indeed. Sometimes the only thing we need to do is to drag our legs out of the door. Once it gets going, it only gets better.
Let's keep up the grind on April brother!
mx404 needed to hear this today. Struggling to get my day going! Attacking the day now.
Eminem vs Son
I am 1,157,298 steps into my 4M step journey this year about 29% complete. On pace for what I set out to accomplish.

Poker has been pretty consistent so far this year at these low stakes. I am still making some mistakes with using pot odds to justify some calls. Almost always have pot odds to call! Pot odds are stupid! Example from yesterday I am playing 1-3-6 (straddle). 2 limpers and hero raises to $30 (5bb) from the BB KsQs. UTGs calls, EP calls, and BTN who over limped preflop back raises all in for just under $200. My thoughts at the time what type of hand over limps on the button then shoves $200? I figure I have about 40% vs his range of hands and its $170 to win $460 so only need 37%. Calling seemed to be more +EV than folding in this spot. Villain ended up having AJs. To my surprise UTG folded and EP over called. Then I folded on a 442r flop when EP shoved 99. Btn had AJs. There are going to be times when players over limp AQ AK JJ as well in these spots and back raises tend to be pretty strong. Depending on the stack sizes I would estimate 88+ AJs+ KQs+ as the bottom of that range (KQs is only 35% vs this range and 39% if I remove AA-QQ from range). I don't want to get too into detail about this spot, but I do believe it's costing me money and I reminisce many years ago when I first shot took $2-$3-$5 at Bay101 many years ago. Started this shot take off on a $8k (16 buyin) downswing mostly due to AQ. I would squeeze to $120, then a short stack would shove for $300. Similar thought process back then of $180 to win about $640 with the dead money so need 28%. AX alone is usually about 30%. But time and time again this awkward stack sizes had me level myself into calling and mostly just running into JJ+ AK as expected. AQo/s is 29% vs this range. Point of this rant is avoid pot odds and these flips. They are just unnecessary.
I wouldn't beat yourself up about that KQs hand too much. Usually when fish make these kind of jams pre flop they just have some random medium strength hand that you are flipping against, and when you factor in the dead money etc then it's fine to call.
Playing in games where people limp, and then back jam means that you are going to get in to these weird kinda situations. The best thing you can do is to mess around with pre flop ranges and see if you have the required equities to stack off. However, it's also important to include some random, spaz hands in to these ranges too, as fish will definitely do this from time to time and just jam in JTo or whatever cos they wanna double up or go home.
Congrats on the steps! How many are you doing on average per day? My steps are lacking right now, though i've been a little better recently and started to play five a side football (soccer) again, so that's some extra cardio too.
Demondoink its funny you mention JTo specifically. I was playing against a guy who is a very tight short stacker. I see him limp call TT preflop, limp call AQ etc. Playing something like 12/5 style 8 handed live games. Just super snug. I get in a spot where I open btn, he 3bets small blind, BB jams for about 45bb. Now I'm on the button with JJ and usually standard spot to stack off but semi close. Usually I'm just going with JJ here. I ended up folding given SB's image who called off the 3x jam (was a large 3bet). Ends up being JTo sb vs BB AKo. 753-T-J run out as well. But just to mention a random spazz 3bet with JTo. It does happen. I do agree KQs isn't that bad. Just a lot of unnecessary variance in soft games. It also sucks when they just double up and leave. Then players have memories of a gold fish when you give action and they still perceive you as a tight player later on.
I've seen some terrible players run up 500bb stacks in these live games opening hands like Q6s for 5-7bb preflop from EP or even as wide as 75o. Something like 60-70% of hands they are raising with. Then I hear some wild ass comments when the guy goes to the bathroom. Someone he beat says "I should of folded my AK, the guy has been so tight." Where its like K7263 board and the aggro player has 76o or something for 2 pair. "he is a good player I should of folded." I hear these comments all the time and I think in what world am I living in? The perception of a good player vs bad player is simply how many chips they have in front of them. I can get coolered 2-3 times and be down a couple of buy-ins and just keep reloading for 100bb and people will see me as the fish on the table LOL. The intelligence or even just basic logic of live players is quite astounding.
Even yesterday another guy I talked to pretty regularly comes to the casino with $140 to play $1/$3. Plays for maybe 6 hours then gets KK and opens for $20. Rec player 3bets to $40. He tells me how he shoved and runs into AA. "I knew he had aces, I should of just called the $20 and if I don't hit K, I should fold." The stories these guys tell and how result oriented they are over the short term is just shocking every time. I can never get used to it.
Anyways that is a bit off topic, but I hope you start playing live so you can hear some of these things for yourself LOL. Some times live poker is just like a comedy club when you know what you are doing.
I am consistent with 10k per day. Its more like 11k but I haven't missed any days this year where I had under 10k. Lot of days are like 10,500 or so, but nothing under. There was one day fitbit didn't reset correctly. I had like 17k steps as well as I was out of town and did some hiking and playing at the park with nephews and nieces. Time I got home around 3am fitbit was around 17k steps. Its supposed to reset at midnight, but some times messes up with a low battery. So when I restarted it, it recorded something like 9k+ steps, just under 10k and zero steps for current day. So technically I am missing about 8k steps that are not tracked, but that is ok. Just staying consistent and trying to build up my cardio. I was really out of shape to begin the year. Arms and legs are fine, but sugar really takes a toll on your body / midsection. So just started off the year walking everyday. Slowly building up cardio where I'll do some HIIT stuff for run a minute, walk 2 minutes, run a minute, walk 2 minutes. Run half a mile, walk half a mile. etc etc. Heart rate has come way down, but still want it to go much lower. I think mid 50s is where it should be at, but I am still in the mid 60s for my heart rate. Justin Gaije for UFC on a youtube short the other day said his resting heart rate is about 36 when he wakes up. When he fought Khabib he said he knew something was wrong because his heart rate was 68. From what I read in the past some athletes get into like the 40s but decent health is like 50-65 range. So I am still at the top of this range. Figure I just need to increase my cardio a bit more in terms of intensity and it will eventually be in the 50s for heart rate.
But just staying consistent with exercise and then trying to fix sleep and work schedule. Exercise seemed like the easiest fix. Poker schedule has been difficult as I keep getting to the casino late each day, then playing late, sleeping in, etc. Hard to change something that I've been doing for years. With online for ignition in the past a lot of the 200NL zone games didn't start running until after 5pm. Even the 50NL zone games in the past some times were not really running until mid afternoon 2-3pm. So its not like I could "go to work early" and get off early. Then I just developed a bad schedule over the years. Where I would like to have a more 10am - 7pm schedule where I am eating dinner at a decent hour. This is another issue. I come home from the casino and I'll eat like 2 meals at like 2-6am before going to bed. Just really bad for choices for losing weight. I don't like eating at the casino though. Just a juggling act right now as I figure out what is the perfect schedule for me. I do notice the higher stake games $100/$200 for instance tend to run earlier. Some times I'll get to the casino around 3pm and these games are already running and they are dead before 10pm most days. Seems like a group of guys treating it like a business or have families to take care of. A lot of these high stake games where people talk about playing graveyard don't actually even run unless its likes $5/$10.
Ok a bit of rambling on there for a short question lol. Thanks for stopping in. Appreciate the support Demondoink
Wadup bud! My update from April :D Keeping it up!
Hey nice to see! I came down sick on the 27th or so and missed my first day of the year. I was bed ridden for 2 days then out of town next 2 days. I am now reconsidering my approach after missing the last 4-5 days. First 2 months or so of the year I was getting results. Last two months seems like a plateau and I think I need to change the process a bit. Something a bit more intense or more weights. Maybe running a mile then hitting weights after. Focus less on the steps and more on the intensity of the workout. Even just doing 100 pushups a day for a month, I see these people getting better results. So something I am considering. Also with summer here, swimming is one of the best exercises you can do. So Ill be changing my path, but not 100% which direction yet. Also going to play some 2\5 this month.
yeah mix in with some varieties will be nice & probably solver approved! I guess I will just keep grinding out on steps and keep my life simple for a while. xD
Results have been rather consistent recently except for a few days in the middle of April. Started to make some more live adjustments where instead of playing 3bet or fold as many of us would do online I started to accept limping as a profitable play. Must navigate the waters post flop and use your skill edge to the best of your ability. I would say this also helps a bit with your image as well. When you accept limping as a profitable play, even open limping, you start to look less like a professional player who just plays raise or fold. A couple other adjustments I made with preflop play is to completely throw out GTO charts out of the window. I am playing nowhere close to GTO charts anymore because of some hands that are -EV in theory preflop lead to a lot of hot spots post flop where they are profitable. You will see Nacho do this in his videos quite often. He mentioned some of his students saying, "how can you be playing 5KNL if you don't know preflop?" This is the game tree I am starting to explore a bit more. Just have to keep an open mind to what is profitable.
With that said I'll be moving up to $2/$5 and paying less rake :-) at least for the time being. We will see how I enjoy the games and if I am going to choose to challenge myself or take the easy path and have future regrets. Was listening to Kobe Bryant motivational videos most of the morning today as I was running errands and getting a bunch of stuff done being back in town. One thing Kobe said was "When we have a project, we do not look for a project that we can do. We want a project where we say we don't know if we can do that, but we'll find out." So, with $2/$5 I was beating these games in California for a couple of years. I don't know if I'll beat them in Vegas, but we'll find out!
With exercise as stated in the above comment I am going to be switching paths to more intense workouts of more weightlifting, hiking, swimming, or physical activity in general. Doing mostly cardio the first 4 months of the year I have only been able to lose about 8 lbs., with 11 lbs. being the lowest. I don't want another four months to go by and I am in the same spot I am now. My 4M step goal for the year sounded great in the beginning of the year and it is very possible to achieve, but I don't think I am going to gain much more from it that I have already accomplished. Lower heart rate, a bit more physically fit, discipline at the tables etc. I want to be able to achieve a leaner muscle mass frame that I am happy about and not just a skinny dude that can run for a few miles.
With that said some of the groceries I bought today included 3 lbs. of ground beef, canned salmon, oysters, then some tomatoes & romaine. Will be increasing my protein intake for some of the workouts I will be doing. See if I can put on muscle and lose some fat at the same time. I am not cutting out carbs or being strict on my diet, but maybe I’ll cut out some of the rice I’ve been eating. Malaysian fried rice with your choice of protein is by far one of the best dishes you can order at the casino. Going to have to start substituting this with cobb salad to get more veggies in my life.
Trystin Lee body full day of eating one guy I follow on YouTube that breaks down some of the macros he uses for body building. I will look towards working my way towards this type of carnivore type diet eventually.
Life is too short Kobe Bryant
RunItTw1ce I wouldn't have any limiting thoughts about beating $2/5, i am sure you can beat games a lot higher than that, especially with your work ethic etc. Imo it's a mistake to put a certain stake, or even certain players, on a pedestal. If you compare humans to a solver, none of us are that good! So that really enables you to avoid putting games or players on a pedestal and allows you to develop the skills and self confidence to beat those games and keep moving up.
Demondoink
Its not that I am putting any of them on a pedestal. Its more about the table dynamics being much tighter! Not that they are good players its just how do you beat nits in high rake environment? Two hands from the other day in a 1-3 game. I over limped 88, which I was already on the fence about isolating 77+ usually. 2 others limped behind me. Ends up being a six way limped pot. Hero in the HJ. Co over limped TT. SB JJ and someone else had AQo lol. There were 4-5 hands that should of easily raised or 3 bet in this hand. I see so many tight passive players at 1/3 I question how much action I can actually get in those 2/5 games. Probably just needs to be a RFI-B-B-give up strategy vs a lot of these players.
Skill wise I think I can beat the $5/$10 games its just a question of how much? And dealing with the variance that comes with it. Then managing net worth is a big part on not moving up too quickly or shot taking too aggressively. Just cruising a long like a turtle. But there is no one I am going to put on a pedestal for these live games. I just need to focus more on exploiting tight / passive players. I'm probably punting some of the bluffs I make. Table talk is always funny when they act like they have a tough decision, which I guess in their head is a tough decision, but they are just afraid of everything! They make a flush and check it back because its not the nuts and dont want to get check raised lol.
RunItTw1ce Haha that's weird that everyone is so passive in the games that you play. I thought it was pretty common in live games for the players to be very splashy because they can only play one table at once, so often get bored and thus play looser than they 'should'.
The fish that i play online against tend to very splashy and loose, there aren't that many tighter ones (and of course these guys are much less profitable to play against than the aggro, spewy ones).
Have you not tried playing in different poker rooms in Vegas? I can imagine that you still have plenty options, especially with playing $2/5 which is still a fairly low stake in terms of live games.
Demondoink I think fish online are more splashy because they don't get the feeling of being embarrassed and have multiple buy-ins in their account. In a live setting a lot of these players might only have 1-3 bullets max to fire. Even some regs I've talked to are only willing to lose 2 buy-ins! So they don't carry much with them leading them to be risk averse in a lot of spots.
Yesterday idk if my play was bad or not but got criticized by an OMC type where I raise pre AQ. Bet on a JTX board. Went to barrel a brick turn and looked like he was going to beat me in the pot. I decided to check rather than build a pot with no FE and OMC bet like $40 into $70 or whatever it was. I called and spiked nuts on the river. I checked and OMC said "king killed me" and checked back with his AJ or whatever it was. Gave me an entire speech about "did you forget to bet" and "I didn't expect you to call with nothing on the turn." Just berating my play. Link above shows my play is fine, but I am supposed to barrel turn quite aggressively. Just have to adapt to some of the live reads.
There are other times fish play passive with some very strong hands either for bankroll considerations or they believe they can trap people with their one pair. What annoys me is when the fish does bust and leaves the table everyone seems to have something to say! Guy yesterday XRAI with As3s on a T42r-4dd-5d board. Pot is like $50 or so going to the river and managed to get 5x pot in against 55. Guy bet like $30 and he just ripped $275 or so. He didn't care about the flush or board being paired etc. After the hand he had like $20 or so left and picked up and left. Even the dealer commented "wasn't there 3 diamonds?" I just looked at the dealer and was like "shhh" I don't understand why people want to criticize others and promote nitty play. But this is one of the reasons why (feeling embarrassed or being criticized by others) some of these games play more tight passive. I'm sure it will change when series comes around.
I did have a dealer yesterday ask me why I don't play $2/$5. Which I did put my name on both list the other day and just sat at $1/3 as it was the first table to open up. Only waited maybe 10 minutes. There were only 4 tables of $2/$5 going and my name stayed on the list for over an hour. $1/$3 table ended up being very juicy so had them take my name off the list as $2/$5 looked dead anyways. But its nice to hear dealers tell me I should be playing $2/$5.
Supposed to go out of town Sunday and some mental game thoughts about playing $2/$5 is I don't want to think about losing when I am out of town. If I was in town I could just go back and try and win back any loss I took. Not that I expect to lose, but I know its a possibility. What happens if I lose say $1500-$2000 in a session 3-4 buy-ins and I don't want it to affect my emotions while I'm visiting family. At the same time I have had days where I lose $600-$900 in these $1/$3 games and you wouldn't be able to tell if I was up or down for the day when I come home. So I think my mental state is very solid right now, but just shot taking makes me question everything all over again.
Demondoink when you go visit your Gran and have to stay a couple nights for viewings, do you think about previous session? If it went poorly how is your mindset? I try and think only of the strategy and in terms of if I played well or not. The results being monetary are more meaningless over the sample size. Not sure how net worth impacts these decisions or post session thoughts as well. When you buy a flat I wonder if you spend say 1/2 your net worth if you will feel pressured to put in a lot of volume as now you don't have as big of a bankroll and risk to ruin is a bit higher and now you also have more responsibilities for house maintenance and if something goes wrong etc. I constantly worry about "worse case" scenarios. Have a lot of anxiety problems. Most of the time I am just "over thinking" things as people have told me many times over, but I just like to be as prepared as possible. This also held me back from climbing stakes online. Trying to play "perfect" to the best of my knowledge and every day I would learn something and go down a rabbit hole of poker theory and it really hurt my volume.
Last consideration is my friend tells me I should also move up as fast as possible because the type of stuff we study is more suited towards $2/$5 and $5/$10. Where $1/$3 is just LOL at times. Can't really study some of the stuff you see in $1/$3 with people limp calling strong hands or not 3 betting Aces etc. I'll likely play some $2/$5 today and tomorrow being the weekend so games should be a bit better. But we'll see what the action looks like. Thanks for any feed back you have here.

some suggestions:
- Find out what kind of body you want to have
--> seems like you now realized that just cardio is not the style you are looking for.
If you are not the pure cardio type of guy, then I would suggest hitting the weights at least 3x per week. Boostcamp is a good app and has free good programmes. Start light, get the technique down and then slowly increase the weight. Imo the best channel for weightlifting right now is this one: RP
--> Cardio:
Swimming is great, but there are 2 downsides imo:
- It's mainly technique, you really need to have good technique for it to be a "cardio-exercise". Otherwise it will interfer with the gym. I would suggest to find a coach and really learn it. Everyone believes they can swim, but most are just surviving. There is good free content available online, but I think it is very difficult to transfer it into the pool. I found a coach to be much much more superior. (good channel on youtube: Effortless swimming)
Also, swimming takes time-- get to the pool, change clothes, swim, shower, dress, get back home-- I personally really enjoy zwift on my smarttrainer (gravel bike) at home. It is super convenient and low impact (very important if you also hit the gym). But cardio is about what you enjoy!
Training Vo2max is said to be extremly beneficial. Once you have a solid foundation, mix in some really hard sessions, but you should be quite fit in the first place. Otherwise they take up too much energy and the gym will suffer.
--> losing weight
In this video Losing weight the one thing I find to be really important is that you see losing weight as a phase. Set a goal of maybe 10 pounds, just get through with it, and then get back into a maintenance phase for some weeks. Then cut more if you need to, rinse repeat.
Most people basically think of it like an endless phase and thus feel like its only about restriction, giving up and so on. It is much easier to let go of drinks, snacks for maybe 6-8 weeks and then have some of it again for a while.
Get rid of snacks and alcohol in your house while you lose weight. Makes it so much easier :)
Also, completely irrelevant, but this trystin guy is carnivore no more. He also looks sick (bad health), I am quite sure that he will look much better in the near future, now that he is listening to Dr. Mike and Jared.
Adjustments to the pool sound good! Good luck with the grind!
Can A Carnivore Bodybuilder Handle A Hardcore Arm Workout? Tristyn actually has a recent video on this channel, so I'll check it out.
I like this quote. Very true!
Not sure how much swimming I'll actually do. Its more of surviving for me as you said lol. Mostly just going to be chillin in the pool playing with nieces and nephews and family BBQ stuff. I won't do swimming too often for exercise. I burn way too easily anyways on hot summer days. Thanks for all these helpful channels. Niece takes swimming classes, so even if they don't apply to me directly I can help niece learn a bit more.
Hey brother, decent month for me. How you doing the past month?
May was a rough month with a small profit, mostly negative until the 31st. Not much to say about it other than just dealing with variance. Missing combo draws, getting AK all in vs a range of QQ+. Had KK vs AA twice in back-to-back orbits one session. Had one reg tell me how I need to change my bet sizing to protect my hand. I am not deviating from my strategy though as I know it works in the long run.
I was experimenting with some of the MDA exploits nacho teaches with bluff raising the river or even trying to just triple barrel a bit more often. I thought I could redline more in live poker, but I think the redline comes from earlier streets. When they reach the river, they are just not folding. Then they are not value betting thin enough on the river for bluff raises to work. Even though the flush completes when they do decide to bet their 2 pair or set, they want to see your hand, so I stopped bluff raising some of these spots. With WSOP in full swing I am not playing any tourneys and sticking to cash games. I might do a couple as they do look like good value, but I know you must win like 20 flips for a big score, and I tend to try and control poker variance. With that said the first week of June has been amazing so far. I'm looking to break some personal records if the pace continues.
For health and fitness my diet sucks, but I did stop drinking energy drinks for a month. I had one rockstar in May because I got way too tired on a road trip while driving. I tried to hold off but was just getting way too tired. Other than that, I am happy with avoiding sugar and caffeine. For fitness I started doing 100 pushups a day. I didn't think it would be very hard, but I am much weaker now than I used to be. I missed two days already this month, but I'll keep pressing forward. I know people make YouTube videos on this stuff and seem to get solid results, so I just must stick with it for a month. My weight dropped 3 lbs. the first 3 days doing these, so that was an instant confidence boost.
Just trying to stay consistent each day with 100 pushups and daily grind. Oh, and Idk if I mentioned this in my journal before, but I loaned a guy money a while back and I wasn't sure if I would ever get paid back. Ended up being a couple hundred bucks, but he has paid me back in full and a little extra as a thank you. I've been trying to help him a lot with his mental game, but he just won't check his ego at the door on how good he thinks he is. Holding onto those sessions where he ran well and crushed the table for 10 buy-ins and thinks it should be normal for him. Some people will just never change.
Floating flop MW light In this hand I thought we would be HU to the turn pretty often and the guy just cbets 100% and squeezes a bit too light. He has shown down some AJo / 97s type hands in these spots, so I wanted to float the flop a bit light MW. I think HU the AKs/AQs/KQs float for 2 overs bdfd bdsd that can turn a strong top pair. When the button folded the Td got exposed which made the hand pretty interesting to me. Removes any top set I would be floating with. Increases the frequency the guy barrels turn as well. Not sure if I got lucky or not this hand. Another guy said he folded QTo and was very curious to what I had, but I never showed. Makes my hand a big mystery to if I have a hand like 98s 65s 77 or AA etc.
Folding bottom set? I still don't know if this was a good fold or not. I want to think villain had top set here as Tx was flashed when she folded. When I asked what she had she said "I had a Ten and a..." then neighbor cuts her off and says "just say you had aces." Later she said she had QT after I told her I folded bottom set. QT doesn't make sense to 3bet on the flop though, not that they are a thinking player or anything. I think TT is more likely, but I have no idea what I am supposed to call a $700 jam with on this turn for 350% pot.
That's my update for now. Hopefully update again towards the end of this month.
Happy grinding WSOP for those of you playing. Also don't give Euro's such a hard time. I've played with a bunch of them so far and they haven't slowed down the game at all and I've enjoyed the challenging spots they have put me in with some of their aggression. Makes the game far more enjoyable than bum hunting whales.
Post cut off a couple other hands I posted.
