Yes. Unless you're relying on the income from poker I would definitely advise trying to move up more aggressively than that. It'll be more fun/challenging, you'll learn more from better players, and you won't waste time at lower stakes if you're good enough to move up and don't run bad.
This really depends on your goals, your current level of poker knowledge, and your personal finances. I'll let other people field this one.
Looks like I might have to rethink the BRM!
I would rather start 2 -tabling with 40 BI at 5NL. Focus on thought process, spots, hud use -> Prove my winrate there over say 50k-100k sample and then move up. You can become the bankroll nit gradually when you are moving up stakes as your winrate decreases and your swings become non-trivial. 50 BI - NL10, 60 BI NL25, etc.
I think you're right about reducing the number of tables, this is something I'll look to do, especially when taking shots. As for the HUD, I am definitely a HUD noob who pretty much uses it to differentiate reg from fish and not much else. Another area I can look to improve in thanks
I was doing exactly the same thing, but it gives you so much more if you spend some time fine-tuning it right. Not all regs are the same and they have tendencies which can save/make you a lot of money.
Big +1 to playing 2 tables of NL5 instead of 4 tables of NL2.
So, wasn't able to start grinding today (real life got in the way), but judging from the above comments it seems like I should reconsider my how nitty I'm being with the roll. I might choose to put in a half decent sample at 2nl just to make sure I beat the stake at a decent rate before skipping it entirely, but the above comments have made me realise I am probably being absurdly tight in terms of BRM. I think this comes from me, in the past, doing the exact opposite, and I feel like being overrolled helps me to avoid tilt issues. Will have a look for some videos on the site which deal with tilt control/mental game.
Appreciate the replies, will think over what you guys have said before I start my first session tomorrow.
Hi Megazords.
I’m doing a similar thing (starting at the bottom), started earlier this year, so I’ll be very interested in watching your progress. Good luck.
Hi Mike, hope it's been going well for you so far?
Been delayed in starting until now, had some stuff to deal with over the weekend which stopped me from having time to play. Really not happy with how long its taken me to sit down and start the grind, but starting my session right now, and I will post a graph update every day from now on (first one later today).
Decided to play some 2nl just to get started, will be trying to shot take more aggressively than initially planned. Ok, time to get started!
Good luck man!
Keep in mind the higher you go the better the rake tends to get. So you got a big ass carrot to get to 200nl, 500plo asap.
I do this for a living and start shot taking good games with 40 bi so 100bi seems especially overkill for a non pro.
Oh also the skill difference between 5nl and 25nl is pretty marginal imo. The biggest step is winning at all.
I think this is true. If you do really well at NL5, I think you also do atleast decently at NL25.
I d go as far to say players don t really start to get good till 200nl. I mean obv some strong players at most limits. Maybe you can sorta lump 2nl-25nl together, 50nl-200nl, then another sizable jump into midstakes? Then obv battling 1knl+ you face some very strong opposition. This is how the fields have somewhat felt to me at least. Either way def not a smooth linear pattern to the limits for sure.
Any updates OP? I'm interested to see how this goes, and am rooting for ya.
