Sleep cycle always shifting?
Does anyone else have trouble keeping a regular sleep cycle? I find I always keep going to bed, 1 hour later each day and then I always end up becoming nocturnal. So then I try to fix it by trying to fall asleep early. But then I waste time laying in bed at 2am and not falling asleep. Then I get back up and grind more, maybe watch some Netflix and eat Eggo waffles.
Fall asleep around 7am. Is there any hope for this?

I fell asleep 10am and woke up 5pm today. Help.
Classic grinder sleep cycle. ;D
I've started using an app called stayfocusd on google chrome which blocks access to google chrome for as long as you want. Not only does this stop me occasionally checking the internet during my session (and as a result, making mistakes through distraction) but afterwards it forces me to go to bed as I can't go on netflix or mindlessly search the internet, and as a result I've found that mindless searching to be the main cause of my insomnia. Leave some mind numbing chores around the house you would have done during the day until after the session, do some meditation (just 15 minutes will do), and you'll be so bored you'll be ready to fall asleep in an instance. If that fails, read something (on that old fashioned medium called paper) and then try to sleep again.
The thing is, you have to decide, that you wake up early, no matter what, for example at 6:00am. I went to bed yesterday at 0:30am and woke up at 5:45 am. So i am sure, i will sleep today at least at 9:30pm.
But what if I just silence the alarm clock while I'm sleeping and never wake up?
Light! The solution is light. I think even getting one of those wake up lamps can be a good idea. I have heard nothing but good things about them.
Maybe this might help :-)
Help
What I do when that happens to me is just stay awake through a whole day then go to bed at a regular time. So if I'm getting up at 8pm then going to bed at 11am for example if I want to go back to a usual sleep cycle I wake up at 8pm then don't go to bed until around 10/11pm the next day.
Good morning, world! (4:40pm)
Have a shitty sleep cycle also.
I recognize myself when you say that you're always going to bed one hour later, when i go to sleep after 4am i try to not sleep before 10 am (and wake up as late as possible) and the next day, i go to bed around 4pm (and wake up at 2am) and begin a new good sleep cycle during two/three weeks until i'm going to sleep too late. But i would largely prefer to sleep normally and wake up every day at 7/8am i don't think what i'm doing is a great solution ! Working on that !
blue light blocking glasses, f.lux, minimal lighting on after sunset & anything to decrease brain inflammation... eg. curcumin, cold thermogenesis, low carb diet... depends how much you care :)
Having good hard workouts usually helps me have a deep dark sleep at night.......exhaustion usually helps and as I get fitter I will naturally get better performance and need less and less sleep overall. Too much sitting and poker leads to fitful and short sleep but in a negative way I find.
Mushmellow, you're not the only one: I'm precisely like that myself. After a while, either I do a whole cycle of de-synchronisation and come back to waking up early, or else I use sleep deprivation within reason then sleep exhausted to sync back.
I have the same problem. I tried to counter it before by setting alarm, but then the whole day was wasted. Sleepy all day, dont want to go to gym etc. And slow in the brain department. I just sleep until i feel rested now. I get out more from life that way.
I know that there been studys on this subject that a couple of scientist was down in a cave for a month or so with no light trying to prove that actually humans had 25-hour cycle. But i dont know what the study came up with. I switched the channel:)
Light is a huge factor (especially light of a certain wavelength but I forget which type) along with exercise and diet. All of these can individually or collectively play a huge role. No computer or tv 60 minutes before bed has been cited as an effective strategy to help your mind shut down and get the right amount of each stage of sleep. And sticking to a sleep schedule that mirrors the Earth's natural light cycle will give you the best bang for your buck in terms of performance. This has been well documented by many studies (often also successfully replicated) comparing productivity of night vs. day shifts and similar situations.
