Reccomendations for a Poker Laptop
I am looking to get a new laptop for poker/college and was looking for recommendations. Price isn't a huge concern but I don't want to spend a lot on something that has more power than I need. I basically need it to run Bovada, HM2, and holdem indicator.
Screen size is something I am concerned with because I currently have 2 24" monitors and have no idea how big of a laptop screen I would need to feel comfortable playing. I would mostly be using it for when I travel and would only be 4 tableing cash. Does anyone play on a Laptop and if so what size screen do you have? Can you still tile tables?

If 1300$ is within your budget, the Macbook pro retina 13" would be a absolute joy to use as a travel, poker, college laptop. light, well build , good resolution screen.
But whatever you get make sure it has good resolution display 1680x1050 or higher i would say for comfortably grind 4 tables on it.
Yeah $1300 is within my budget. I have never owned a Mac before. Is there any issues with running Bovada, HM2, or holdem indicator. Also how does that work with Word? My desktop runs Windows so I wasn't planning on getting a Mac.
You can probably get better systems in terms of specs tho for the $1300 bucks but thing about Macbooks is they look awesome, very well build, keep good resell value and the OS is just great.
I would suggest you watch/read some reviews, and check on review sites what the options are out there. And then get the one you like most.
If you do endup getting the mac, quick tip is to get a "nifty minidrive" to add 128gb space :)
Don't get an apple bc u will have issues down the road with the poker stuff. I have a nice Dell but IMO I think that the Dell Precision M3800 and the Toshiba Qosmio X70-A is probably the 2 best laptops out for what you want them for. Prices are around $1500ish.
I have a 13' macbook and use windows as well to run PT4 on zoom games. I certainly recommend it if you are not worried by spending a little bit more because the difference that I feel using OSX and Windows is significant. For 4-6 tables is perfect. More than that I don't recommend in OSX but in Windows looks a little better like 8 tables.
I used a Macbook Pro for about 4 years, it worked great for poker and I really enjoyed OSX. However, when the battery on it kept dying on me after a while I figured it was time to eventually get something new. I ended up going back to windows, Win8 took a little getting used to. But it's just so much easier for poker stuff instead of having to run vmware/parallels/bootcamp or hope that the mac versions of the software all work together. There are a good number of ultrabooks out there that weren't super expensive, but still powerful, and portable. 5 years ago that wasn't really the case except for the Macs (still kinda pricey).
Thanks for the responses guys. I think I am just going to stick with Windows because it is what I am familiar with. Has anyone used a Lenovo? I was looking at the Yoga 2 pro.
Also 13" screen is big enough to 4 table? This is my biggest concern at the moment.
I had lenovo u350 idea pad and was happy with it, but it lasted only 1,5 year so I guess that was not good choice... Ventilator broke quickly, battery also and finaly HD just died one day...
Now I have lenovo T400 think pad(old several years, but it's expensive one) and I am happy with it...
This is just comment regarding brand lenovo...
yoga 2 pro seems fine, although i recommend you to take a look at dell's new inspiron 15 7000 series. i got mine a few months ago, its a 15.6" i7 16gig RAM, 256GB ssd, decent nvidia graphics alluminum beast. and the battery life is 7-9hrs which is also pretty sweet. it just falls to whether you want a 13 or 15 inch screen. anyway gl with your decision.

How come big brands havent yet launched something like "gaming/poker line" lap tops likewise sport line, avangard, classic in car industry for example...?
I don't even know which characteristic should have such poker line except performances/screen resolution and other stuff , but something like that already exists, only there are no lines telling which brand/model is suitable for job/gaming{poker line}/surfing only etc...
Just wondering....
Don't get a MAC. Do get a Lenovo. It likely won't have any problems if you take care of it, but if it does their customer support is excellent. And being that Lenovo is the most popular business computer brand in the world, there are countless easy instructional videos for fixing or replacing damaged parts in your laptop (should you need to do that). My first Lenovo poker computer lasted from 2008 until 2012. My current one is blazing fast with no problems going on two years. and the original still works it just finally started to get slow so it was a no brainer to replace it after 4 years.
Get a laptop with a SSD. Period.
Absolutely.
I will use this thread if you don't mind. I am buying laptop for playing poker and I can't decide what screen size and resolution is the best choice. Would you guys go for 15" or 17" screen?
I have a Samsung Galaxy for travel and it's light as a feather and runs HM manager just fine
I have an older Dell Inspiron 17". It's on the larger side for sure, but the main attractions for me were the screen resolution (1920x1080) and the fact that the keyboard has a numpad. Makes multi-tabling very easy.
I am also in the market for a non-mac laptop to play the US sites (bovada, carbon and ACR). I currently have a mac laptop and the poker sites just suck on there or dont exist for mac. Any suggestions on which min specs I should get? I will be running either PT4 or HM and the 3 sites all at once. THX
