Is there anyway to have a discussion that isn't full of insults and comments towards the Original Poster that aren't related to the actual content?

For example it seems likely to me this thread will become full of posts by people that aren't mods or owners.

When people spend time not commenting on the subject but rather insulting the person who posted it, is this the kind of acceptable behavior that is in the spirit of this community?

I'd like to have some interesting discussions (well imo of course), but every time I attempt to do it, my threads start to fill up with insults towards me and my ability to write (addmitedly not my strong point).
