Questioning the Authority - My first year on RIO
I am going over forum posts to reread quality posts i didn't understand when i signed up here for essential, and in poker knowledge I was what latin would say almost tabula rasa ( didn't know almost anything of pro things )
I ve read somewhat 2 months of treads, and what i noticed as outstanding in my approach - and I'm posting so maybe others don't make same mistake, is following
Someone said poker takes 2 minutes to learn rules, and whole life to master it … (saying is from memory but something like that ) and that facts brings BIIIIG trouble, and trouble is that you seem to think you know how only you re lil unlucky and all you need is lil bit of experience and few questions answered, which is mind frame i came here with , as i guess many of us
First thing i did when i got here , i was reading a lil forum, getting familiar with whats going on, and i started to ask questions, and thats what i just reread among there things
I asked questions on spots that were troubling me often, and what i got are really superb quality advises , but during rereading i noticed i actually didn't accept any of those advises with ease, and i questioned all advises
So many spots in poker are close, and you can question basically any advise given, because you can always find argument to do otherwise, and i have noticed that even after my repeated re-questioning people started to elaborate answers thoroughly and even with more quality, and all i was thinking was - o maybe they got lost in so many details and don't see big picture, and i may add i even doubted ones of most authority here on site ( i won't name so i don't get to be exposed as biggest silly ever ) few times in my own thinking - maybe they re mistaken
Every one of us know to play poker cause they learnt rules, and it really blurs the vision when you re trying to approach the subject because it does seem as you know well and you can argue with whoever maybe not on equal basis, but close..not far away from authority, which is DAMN WRONG and aside of right and wrong , makes a big trouble because its sooo MISLEADING, and is tremendous obstacle in process of learning to play poker, so i decided to post maybe to help others realize faster then me , that content and people on site are of knowledge and quality not to be disputed much
In my personal life, when someone asks me advise whether private or professional, i don't have much of a temper, i say what i think, and if i notice person is unresponsive, i don't elaborate nor do i push my view or person to accept advises. My experience is that people often ask you so they can confirm what they intend to do is correct, and are lil insecure, but if given advise to do otherwise, they would push their arguments and what they think first place, so by arguing they reaffirm standpoint of what they wanted to do first place, sooo i really don't bother, i jus say what i think, and on slightest feeling person is closed in its mind, i jus try to avoid any involvement
Speaking of above, it is way most of us are, and what most teachers coaches etc are, even best ones, with really big and huge exception i found here, where i wanted to say special and biiiiiiiig thank you to Tom and Zenfish, for persuing to give quality advises no matter how unresponsive us posters are and no matter how much we do not comprehend.
PS - I can rant sooo much, id appreciate advises on how to say what i want shorter, sorry if i bored you, hope not overly, i just felt need to share with all of people around coming here with intention to learn, and advise you not to question and doubt what you are advised here, and of that i recently run into awesome quote by Pablo Picasso saying, very much reflecting what i wanted to say
