There were some debate a while back on how the rake was collected (ie. from the pot) and that high rake in that system makes the game tighter and more geared towards preflop game (not much calling and way more 3bet/4bet pre).

My question is this, and probably there are some flaw to this system too, and you have probably already thought about it and dismissed for some good reason. But why is the rake not collected before the hand starts? Say we play a game and the average rake is 5bb/100 per player in the normal rake structure where you take money from the middle. Why not instead collect 0.05bb every hand before the hand is dealt?

Would not this be a better way to do it?
