Been using HM1 and am going to up grade to either PT4 or HM2 I have just heard HM2 has a lot of performance issues and am leaning towards PT4 thoughts or opinions please. And how is note caddy that's the one thing that I keep feeling makes HM 2 worth it.
thedoors12 years, 2 months agopt4 is very fast, much more than hm1
i had to take pt4 for a specific site, i tried hm2, i liked because i come from hm1 but it has a reputation to be buggy, pt4 works very well, never had a bug (but i had to get used to, because its different from hm1), bot sure i m clear
Parker Muir12 years, 2 months agoI switched from HM1 I to HM2 but I just couldn't deal with it crashing on me multiple times a day. I've since switched to PT4 and am pretty happy with it. It took me a while to get used to, and it's still missing a couple things that I remember using in HM1, but overall I like it and don't plan on going back to HM anytime soon.
ZenFish12 years, 2 months agoYup, the early HEM2 releases were crap. Just like the early PT3 releases (which was the reason I switched to HEM1 back in the day). HEM2 seems very stable now, though.
Nom de Guerre12 years, 2 months agoI've never used PT. I have HM2 and the software doesn't crash or anything like that but I think its performance is a bit of a dog (I have a quad core CPU with 8GB so it's not my computer being old or slow). This was not something designed by Steve Jobs. Maybe HM2 being a major release was released fairly recently and this is the reason, and things will improve later on. Is PT4 faster and leaner than HM2?
Patrick Oliverio12 years, 2 months agoWhat do you feel that it is lacking compared to HM 1 as that is what I am most familiar with as well. I usually run 4 tables at a time and that's what I have heard the knock on hm2 is if you multi table more than two tables. I am leaning towards pt4 though I just hate having the learning curve.
Lenny Seward12 years, 2 months agoDo you mean mark a hand "Good", "Bad", "Review", etc? You can do that by clicking the tag next to the PT4 logo and hovering over the hand. thedoors12 years, 2 months agono lenny i mean on hm you click on hh hud and then on mark, it takes 2 clik
on PT you have to open the menu, open the hh reviewer and then mark it and also says if review or not, it takes more time
+ HH popup during game is quite ugly
but again i have to use it on a site and it s fast etc
vanity0212 years, 2 months agohow is pt4 on zoom tables? I occasionally lag when using hm2 on zoom, after this recent patch its running super smooth.
John Mackay12 years, 2 months agoi use it for zoom, its really fast and haven't had any problem, apart from running a shit ton under EV :/
fitzroy12 years, 2 months agoI just bought HM2 two weeks ago and the lag on my computer is almost unbearable. It's better since the most recent update, but much laggier than HM1. FWIW I use Windows Vista, 4GB Ram, quad core 2.4GHz processor .
vanity0212 years, 2 months agoYeah hm2 and I think pt4 are really hardware intensive. I have 16 gigs of ram i7 processor and it's still lags a bit. Before the last patch it was bad, but bearable.
HM2 launches in about 5 seconds.
I can run a filter in HM2 over 500k hands in 2-3 seconds.
Your harddrive is the problem your computer is running slow for most people. Getting an SSD is going to be a -HUGE- upgrade to your system and you'll thank me. I've never met a person that regretted spending the money for an SSD.
When HM2 was released, it was a piece of shit. No way around it. They released a beta product.
The good news is that they've fixed nearly all the problems with the software. It runs much quicker. It doesn't crash. It's a beastly analytical tool for poker players. Unfortunately for the devs, they've learned that first impressions are hard to change.
Nom de Guerre12 years, 2 months agoIf an application has a standing requirement to have an SSD installed before having acceptable performance, then the app was designed and/or written poorly :-)
HM2 performance six months ago was a dog. And when I say dog, I don't mean running queries over a large sample of hands. I mean just navigating from one part of the program to another, loading windows/menus and so forth. Lousy.
Users should NEVER have to be required to upgrade their hardware to solve a performance issue, if it can be solved through better code. Which seems to be happening right now since HM2 performance has improved a little over the last six months.
Seems like they rushed the product out to market a bit before it was really ready. No I don't work for PT or anything and I haven't used PT so I won't recommend PT over HM2 or vice versa.

Justin Marsh12 years, 2 months agoHM1 and PT3 ran super slow as well. The thing is that these are beastly database programs. They do the type of work that your off the shelf PC wasn't designed to do. The devs for all tracking software always have to battle giving maximum analytical benefit with having the software run reasonably well on standard two year old consumer PCs. The problem HM2 has had is they employ some awful coders that don't know how to get the power/performance balance. That's the opposite of PokerTrackers problem of not having clue how to make their software easy to use and flexible.
There's a bunch of software that runs horrifically on standard consumer PCs. That alone doesn't make the software bad.
z0fman12 years, 2 months agoi had hm2 and ninja running on my old 4year laptop...when i got over 20 tables i dont need to tell u what happened..crashing...me timing out...hm2 shutting down unexpectedly...it was a nightmare...now i got an asus gaming laptop quite expensive one and it runs up to 30tables ive tried pretty smoothly...my setup is i7 quadcore 2.4...16gb ram..and hdd 750 gb...i imagine with ssd it would be a beast..anyway im very happy now havent experienced any problems so far
Tom M12 years, 2 months agoI'm a US player, mostly mtt's, and HM2 does not work on Winning Network. PT4 does even though it's buggy.
HM2 was a resource hog. One of the more recent updates made it not chew up your RAM so badly. I have 8 GB so it was never much of an issue for me, anyway ...
Paul Moran12 years, 2 months agoNormally we don’t like to get involved in discussions on PT vs. HM2 and let people make up their own mind, I would just like to acknowledge that we did let our customers down with the initial release and we learned some valuable lessons and I apologize to the HM customers for this as your support over the years has been invaluable. We have since done our best to rectify those issues and have made significant improvements in a lot of areas including our recent release which reduced ram significantly and also solved a lagging issue some people experienced. We done some recent comparisons that might be of interest which you can view here: http://www.holdemmanager.com/HM2PerformanceComparison.php
We’re continuing to release updates every 2 weeks with resolved issues and new features or improvements.
If anyone who has tried HM2 in the past would like to trial it again you can email hm2support@holdemmanager.com and we will enable a new trial.
Is there ever likely to be a Mac Compatible HM? I have read in the forums of some intentions in the past but these seem to have came to nothing. Is this in the pipeline or is it as I suspect not going to happen?
Running a Mac now I am having to run Windows in vmware on the Mac just to run hm2 but will likely consider PT 4 when released for Mac if there isn't a HM2 equivalent on the horizon.
