Poker Software: Leak buster, Poker Tracker, Hold'em Manager...

RIO,

Before I start, I must say I really appreciate anyone getting back to me on this.

Right, so there are numerous software programs out there screaming and dancing about their benefits for your game. Are they really that good? I have read a lot on their websites, but I want an objective POV from someone using them everyday. How beneficial are they to your game? Are they extending your winning return, or have you seen a relatively small affect?

Do you winning players swear by HM/PT/LB? Can you be a substantial winning player without such software?

TY!!! Harv3y Jnr

I think PT and HM are both great programs. I have personally always used PT and like it. but i have friends who love HM so it's a coin flip. I believe if you are going to take poker seriously you should use every tool you can get your hands on whether it's coaching book's and yes software. Software is a great tool just for finding the leaks in your own game and finding spots that you may be playing bad. I feel like it is a great addition to anyone's arsenal. Just be careful with HUD stats because stats are nice but i would never put to much faith in them, there best used for as another variable in your equation to take into consideration before making a play. B

Best of luck on the table!!!

Thanks DD. Yeah, I have to agree with your view on a great addition to your arsenal. With this said, how user-friendly is PT? I downloaded the free trial and tried to use it - I felt I was unsuccessful. Tbh, I work long hours so I didn't have the time to learn the software like I wanted to (no excuse really, i know...make the time). How user-friendly do you feel it is? Is there material explaining how to use the key features? Any shortcuts? Or just use the PT user guide? Online tutorials? I know there's a few points here, but if you could point me in the right direction i'd be eternally grateful...:)

equilab isn't a tracking/HUD program but i use it all the time with "off the felt work"

You pretty much must get either HEM2 or PT4. Not using a tracker is burning $$ imo. It s not mandatory to use the HUD but it def helps esp at low stakes with large player pools. The main benefit of a tracker is that you have a history of your play and you can easily review hands and sessions.

I m assuming mike means review and equity calculations when he says off the felt work. This is where you build you intuition and practice putting guys on ranges and trying to figure out the best lines without the pressure of the clock and $$.

Another enormously useful program imo is the propokertools odds oracle. Its a little pricey but man it does so much. Equities for nearly any game you d play, combination counting, graphs etc.

TY! I'll have a look into it. I can appreciate how 'off the felt' work is a key element in developing your ability as a poker player. Sometimes, the game or session will happen so quick, you catch 4 hours sleep, head into work and start another 'grind' over. With this, the time for reflection is minimal - not exactly great when wanting/needing to improve/study/understand. I know we talk about money management, but I need to acquaint myself with a little thing called 'time management'... :) Cheers WM!
