My Journey to become an EXCELLENT Poker Player
Hello fellow community members,
I am making this post to motivate me and hopefully others to become the best possible poker players they can be. I feel that everyone on this thread shares the same passion for poker, and wants to reach their maximum potential. Poker has been something I have been fascinated with since I was young. I began my "playing career" on pogo high stakes poker play chips at a young age. Something really awe-spired me, and now 7 years later at 23 I am hellbent on becoming a professional player.
I am currently in a Graduate Program, but my true passion lies in poker and the cards. I love everything about the game, and even when running bad still enjoy the game. I am hoping if I focus on process goals, and learning goals I will be able to eventually make a career out of this. By process/learning goals I mean I will just focus on concepts/ learning new material and applying the knowledge that I learn. I WILL have very little interest in results, yet I will check my results once a week to make sure I am still making progress. (so I don't check my bankroll until end of week)
My plan/goals to become a professional is:
1. Buy a good monitor
2. Have accountability and read/ take notes on poker books. Hopefully 50 pages each day!
3. Have realistic, specific, measurable, timely goals.
4. Watch videos on RIO and take great notes
5. APPLY APPLY APPLY APPLY what I learn
6. Learn new tools each day, and dedicate time each week to learning them better
I am in the process of making a big action plan to help me complete my goals. I truly love the game, and would love to play it for the rest of my life. I am hoping that process goals will motivate me to never give up, and always strive to learn new information. I obviously want to keep track of performance goals, but they take a back seat to process/learning goals.
Looking forward to any responses from established Professionals. I am highly curious on the process top pros took to become the best at the game. Hoping this thread will shed insights into the effort and process to become a professional player.
