My 2014 Poker and Life goals
Hello RIO!
A brief bio: I am 23 years old and i have played poker since i was 12 years old learning it from my grandfather and have continued to play off and on. I work full time and have a family. I am married with 3 wonderful children. ( Will post pics upon request if thats something people would like to see ). I am new to ROI only have recently found it. Ive been on 2+2 for awhile always lurking never contributing so i decided i wanted to start contributing to a community and from what ive seen ROI has the best community to be apart of. The motivation and uplifting that is done here as well as all the in depth analysis and discussion has just blown my mind and i am going to be a RIOer (lol) for life.
I am hoping to find a "poker family" you could say in that i can find a support group and good people to share my life experiences with to not only help me grow but that maybe my story and my input can help another fellow poker play grow or succeed in some way.
I currently play 6man 25nl-50nl and have had decent success. I play on Bovada so i have no software to track but i do keep a notebook i am filling with my win/loss information. Its still a rough draft but im figuring out how to keep it pretty organized and informative.
My Poker Goals for 2014
- Have a + win/loss for the year winning at least 10k
- Keep a good BRM and dont jump levels to quickly ( Ive not got a set guide line for when to take shots if anyone has any solid guidelines to follow im all ears )
- Keep a personal poker journal recording my thoughts to help me reflect and grow
- Eliminate tilt as much as possible
My Life Goals for 2014
- Pick back up on a healthy eating regiment as well as exercise.
- Join a Martial Arts gym and train 4-5 times a week
- Learn to enjoy life a little more with my wife and kids ( less stress )
- Invest more time into friends and family and build stronger bonds with current friends as well as find new friends to build bonds with.
- Volunteer some time doing something good for the less fortunate
Thats all i have for now. I will continue to update this weekly and i hope everyone has a great 2014!
Thanks for reading and for any input i recieve in advance!

Good luck!
P.S.: It's RIO (run it once). ROI (return on investement) is a totally different thing ;)
Oops thats a typo lol ill correct it.
and thanks!
Good luck :)
Thanks!
Sounds like a plan! I think most people in here would agree to have 40-50 buy ins for the stakes you play and then take shots at higher levels accordingly. Wow, 23 years old and three kids already. Well done, man. I'm 26 and have a son and another child on the way.
Anyways, best of luck, sir. I'm looking forward to your updates. ;)
Thanks! Yea me and my wife are very family oriented and enjoy our kids. I love poker so much beacuse i know that once i make it to the point i can grind out a living will open up so much freedom to me and my family as well as a great income.
5/2/2014 update
As of today ive busted my online bank roll. I have nothing but myself to blame i had a big hand where i made a full house and the villain rivered quads and busted me then i went on from there to spew the rest of my roll off. I am taking a few days break to mediate and reflect. I am currently focusing most of my time on getting my mind in the right spot as well as increasing my focus and learning ways to not tilt at the tables.
Edit: I forgot to mention i have setup a training routine with my local Kuk Sool won Martial arts class. Im hoping that this training will help me get my anger undercontrol and allow me to learn how to keep inner peace and a higher level of focus.
Thanks for reading!
Have a great afternoon!
Hey bro. You and me sound like we've had some similarities in going nuts and busting our bank rolls. Did you jump up in limits? I just started my new grind and I am using super strict rules for stop loss and bank roll management. I also have a support team in place here at RIO that you would also share in more if you posted more. You get what you put in so to speak. Anyway. Good luck and look for my post and hopefully it will motivate you to fix your problem.
No i was playing my normal limits i just had that one horrid beat where the villain had just a couple dollars more than me and we were both 250bb+ deep so it was a huge pot for my limit and i just went on super spew mode.
Thanks for your post and ill keep my eyes open!
Good luck man, keep us updated!
Thanks man!
