Merge Network does away w/ VPP points for cash

Hey RIO, the Merge Network just removed their VPP points exchange for cash and they don't allow rakeback. You can still use your points to buy in to tournies but I am wondering should I pull my money off that site? And move it to somewhere like ACR (since they got rid of that ridiculous Beast Rake) and have 27% rakeback available (unless they removed that.)

Very frustrated right now because I was one exchange away from playing nl100. And now I am just going to have to play some big tournies I guess.

Any advice from the RIO community will be greatly appreciated!

So now, Merge has absolutely no rakeback? That sucks.

If you can get as much action on ACR, I would definitely recommend you switch. The money's worth adjusting to a new client.

I'd suggest you withdraw just a little bit of money at first, so that in case it doesn't work out with ACR you don't have to pay double the fees.

What would be the best way to do this 1.) So I can continue to play while I am waiting for my check. 2.) So I don't have to drop back in stakes, I don't really want to play less than nl50

ATM - I have a 5k roll and that is it as far as poker money goes.

Also, I guess it is not the entire Merge Network as a player from Sportsbook informed me he can still exchange his points for cash. So it looks like just Carbon - is this something I should be worried about, as far as the safety of my money?

If it's Carbon, just switch clients but stay on Merge. I'm not sure what other clients there are, but there's bound to be one that's decent. You'll stay in the same player pool, and you won't have to deal with any money transfers.

If you want to keep playing while you're transfering away from Merge, take away around 1k (20BIs) from you Carbon account and deposit it somewhere else. When you're sure the new site is okay for you, then you can make the whole switch. In the meantime, you should be comfortable enough to play with 20BIs.

If you're worried about the safety of you're money, I'd suggest giving Carbon a call and asking for the reasons behind the switch of policy. If they sound unsure, or like they're trying to make excuses, cash out. Safety first.

Wouldn't I still need to cash out to put money on another skin? I tried logging into sportsbook using my same username and that failed (I didn't expect it to work though).

Guess I am playing a $60 tourney tonight - if I win it I will be thrilled with the new deal lol

Great I'm going to have to play in that one too...how do you even play tournaments? Any recommended videos for a beginner? I know you are just suppose to play very tight like a dumb knit and then loosen up as the blinds increase?

I wonder what type of bankroll I am suppose to have to play a $60 tournmaent?

arizonabay 10 years, 11 months ago

lol - I don't have the bankroll required but since its the only thing to use VPP's on I figure what can it hurt ; a min cash would be better than having 6k+ VPP's. Not sure why but this really ticks me off.

Oh yeah did I mention I hate tournies!

nick rampone was an essential pro a time ago and beginning on his videos would be the best to get on the elite videos. lucas greenwood/james hudson talk a lot about fundamentals on mtt. the others make more of the live recording and I don't see the way to get the max value from it yet.

on elite sam greenwood talks about some deeper fundamentals and you have a bunch of world class mtt players like chidwick, holz, rampone and koon. we don't have unlimited time so these I recommend. but probably will watch some day all coaches here.

I doubt Mush will go study deep tournament fundamentals anytime soon...

Strategy wise, when the blinds are really low, I play every hand that has potential. If you hit a big hand, you'll easily stack weak players, which will give you a cushion for later.

The most important thing IMO is constantly thinking about and adjusting your bet sizing to abuse smaller stacks.

If you bet 75%|75%|30%, for example, you last bet is pretty much useless. Adjusting your bet sizing will allow you to put maximum pressure on the wittle fishies.

Yum yum! It should be fun having all the cash players who don't know how to play 20bb stacks around!!

I am rusty a 14bb stack = no more raise/fold?

Mushmellow 10 years, 11 months ago

you gotta ship it in like a man with big CAJONES

i'm railing you you gotta ship any A and stuff i think ask Dialing

Mafuyuchan keeps shoving you have to tame him and snap him off with AA

no more raise/fold with 14bb ? we're back to 2004 ?

For me the bottom is 9bb LP and 11bb EP. But I also have records of RFI 66% hands sometimes. So, don't take this advice.

DialingUP420 10 years, 11 months ago

I mean, I wouldn't say always, but usually. It all depends on the table though. I'm not afraid to raise/ fold 10bbs so long as I know my opponents understand a min raise at 10bbs means I'm not folding 99% of the time. You have to be aware of how they perceive a 10bb mr though. If you're not comfortable manipulating a table and spots short I'd suggest open shipping 15 or under and making your life easy. Keep an open mind and open up your parameters as you get a better grasp of the arena. The biggest mistake people make imo is getting a strategy on a training site and thinking it's the end all be all. Lots of people do this and blindly follow the heard. The best are always a step ahead of what everyone else is doing, that's why they're the best! There is a time and a place for everything, nice to have an open playbook.

Thanks, I think I made a slight mistake shipping 20bb's from the HJ w/ ATs but all the stacks behind me were ~8-15bb's. I decided to ship because I don't think I was going to fold if anyone shipped behind me. What do you guys think? Ya, the CO had AK and 14bb's. Had no info on any of the players.

Rapha Nogueira 10 years, 11 months ago

ATs is 0.37bb +EV shove pre ante, considering an effective stack of 14bbs for the CO, BTN, SB, BB. But I raise/fold it very often against players that won't shove very wide there.

Thanks RIO - sorry to disappoint but I guess I will play this tourney every 6000 VPP's

NoHubris 10 years, 11 months ago

A month ago I bubbled a final table of a 900 man, $109BI multi-entry tourney on FT, his A6 vs my 77. That bubble cost me about $700, not counting all of the money I could have made if I survived until there was less than 9 players. All that to say I also hate tourneys sometimes.

NoHubris 10 years, 11 months ago

I just won a 300 man micro stakes tourney (jumped in for fun after seeing you guys play a tourney).

I got heads up with a 2:1.5 lead, and it was over in 10 hands. I just grinded away at him, and he would lose 1/8th of his stack every hand. 3bet/folding, leading then shutting down on the turn, etc. Too easy.

Perks of being a HU player in a tournament.

The funny part is that so many players have no idea what to do HU, but that's when the pay increase is the most important.

arizonabay 10 years, 11 months ago

Well Done - This actually got me thinking of playing some more tournies, I might use some real money and buy into some of the COPS coming up
