Meditation and Poker
So, I've been reading up a bit on meditation and it seems like there are tons of advantages to it, not only for poker, but for your overall life and well-being. Things like lower blood pressure, reduced stress, improved cardiovascular strength, decreased anxiety, clear headedness, increased feeling of happiness, and increased energy levels.
The primary benefit that I've seen that relates to poker is increased levels of focus, awareness, attention, and memory.
In fact, "MRI scans of long-term meditators have shown greater activity in brain circuits involved in paying attention. Long-term meditation can also cause changes in the actual structure of your cortex, the outer layer of your brain. Brain regions associated with attention and sensory processing have been shown to be thicker in meditators.
Studies suggest that meditation can help you to train your attention and focus, even in the midst of distractions. For instance, when disturbing noises were played to a group of experienced meditators undergoing an MRI, they had little effect on the brain areas involved in emotion and decision-making."

In the past I've generally relied on Adderall or caffeine to grind >5 hour sessions. After deciding to stop using both of those substances(their both just really terrible for you but that's for another post) my ability to play longer sessions has diminished. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten into this yet, what your schedule is, and how your results have been. What changes have you noticed in your ability to concentrate and in your life overall?
