Low Intensity Grind

So I was thinking one of the most common comparisons for playing poker well is performing well at sports... But it doesn't seem realistic to sustain the type of high-intensity, high-focus frame of mind you would use for competing in sports for say 40 hours a week of grinding. Do you just bring as much focus as you can at all times? Or do you have periods of lower intensity and focus, whether by design or not?
