Isildur is still the sickest
Say what you want about the guy. He's the reason highstakesdb.com exists.
You can't do anything but root for the guy, unless he's playing Ben or Phil.
He gives zero fucks about bankroll management, game selection, preparation etc.

4sure root for him after phil~
I have no clue why he's playing WCG at CAP, though. That's all about having set ranges, knowing the math well etc., and he can never beat someone who has a HUD, runs sims etc.
But almost nobody is willing to play him at 100BB+ at PLO but maybe 2-3 players, and maybe 6 at NLHE because he's rusty.
i think CAP suits him just fine as deep, he plays great both :-)
Of course he's great, but is he top 5 in the world great at CAP? We know he is at PLO and draw games, and he used to be at NLHE deep.
i think he can play anything top 5
hud is ok but don't underestimate power of brain :) - is not like he is playing 180+ players pool
Why can't Victor be good at CAP, he has played a ton of HU SNGs. And he can always mimic the game of his opponent. Also, he doesn't seem to mind paying a ' tuition fee'.
It's hard to beat someone if you're merely trying to replicate him. I won't say much because I never play CAP. Bu it seem unlikely that someone who play solely on a ridiculous amount of talent can beat math/strategy wizards at those games. A guy like him wants to be able to outplay you, not push small equity edges that are nearly impossible to calculate yourself.
Aleks, GT is talking about Isildur get 100% rakeback.I think that makes him more of a boss. He'll play anyone at any game, and still manages to be super tough everywhere.
what is tuition fee?
Pay for education. School fee.
o i never know anything, thanks :)
Love rooting for Viktor, right along with rooting for Phil. My top 2 favorite online grinders.
I won (read: luckboxed) a HU sng on party vs him (blom90 account), back in 2008 on party. I called him a fish. I had no BRM back then, it was a 1k one. I crushed him and ran pretty hard w the monies. True story.
How do we certainly know that 1sildur "is not a math guy" and his success has to be exclusively with some kind of natural talent ?
I always hear this kinds of thing, and i don´t know why you people are so sure about what 1sildur does when he´s alone in his house.
Maybe he is reading this spot right now, watching every video at Run It Once and laughing of us.
In an interview he stated that he never used any type of hud, never read any book about poker, just started off playing, basically. You also must not forget that natural talent is a broad concept. An idiot savant can count a box full of matches within nano-seconds, but when we ask him how he does it, he can't answer.
Because players that know him and have talked strategy said it.
Of course they could be wrong, but he is one of few players who doesn't try to play a GTO style, and he's said he doesn't use stuff like a HUD.
He learned the draw games so quickly, though. That has to be impossible without some kind of training by someone else.
As a society we put emphasize on the importance of being able to do great things with little effort. We idolize our sports heros and talk about their natural talents, we make a big deal about savants who can play a piano piece after only having heard it once, our movies and TV shows are about the hero who just goes out and does it, he doesnt have to work at it. We worship these feats because basically we all wish somehow we had that same ability. Being able to do something effortlessly at at a world class level with out doing any work at all would truly be a wonderful thing!
The truth tho is that we don't see the insane amount of hard work that our sports heros put in away from the field, we dont see the countless hours someone like Victor has put in away from the table. And sadly as a society we dont romanticize the blood and sweat that goes into achieving something at a very high level, we just romanticize the "gifted" athlete. Its sad really because it distorts our view of what really is possible with hard work, and it cheapens their actual accomplishment. We even sabotoge ourselves to appear more gifted. There are tons of studies and books out now talking about how its bad to praise a child for being smart, because instead of learning to work hard, they just learn to avoid putting themselves in a position to make a mistake so that they dont appear "stupid". Thats so counter productive to what it takes to actually achieve that its mortifying. We are never going to hear a story about Victor spending all night crunching numbers and diligiently doing math away from the table, because we dont want to hear that story, and he doesnt want us to hear that story. We want him to be the "gifted" player who doesnt use a hud who doesnt work away from the tables, who just shows up and crushes. We want the illusion that its possible to be the best in the world at something on just natural ability, because collectively we all think work sucks and we wish we didnt have to do it. We wish we could just sit down and play bethoven.
insane amount of hard work- yes for anything !
i wouldn't question tho if its without a hud and math, hours and hours playing multiple tables for years make up for math with experience and trial and error no numbers can help you same way
That is all true, but the amazing thing is that Viktor has achieved so much solely from working very, very hard, and having talent.
I'd actually love to know how good he could get if he had the approach of someone like Ike Haxton.
he wouldn't have time to play as much ^^
Maybe Isildur is Gametheory!?
lol juan! hes ol playing somuch i doubt he has time to eat and sleep ~ and its not like poker math is such a big \\ thingy ~ - few percentages up down I'm not sure matter so much, or I'm just naive
lol
IDkk i don't use hud i do notes, but if i play 1 player pool for a week, i do know who folds to much to bets who to 3 bets who likes to cr and with what and how acts on river who squeezes who doesn't who traps who flats AA oop etc, and umm most of stats hud guys use hud for i just remember
im not sure hud is that much of a big deal , I'm just average intelligence or so, so someone with massive IQ i really am not sure needs it at all
At high-stakes the edges are so slim that seemingly small details become infinitely more important. It's not enough to just say "I saw this x/r a few times yesterday so I know how he plays." I'm not trying to suggest that without a HUD most players are hopeless, but they do provide a tremendous advantage to those are willing to set up and use it properly.
The best degen after Ivey :D

Phil vs Isildur HU PLO video. If Phil wins then Viktor has to make a 10 part PLO and NL series.
I think very few dislike Viktor and it's easy to see why with his playing style and table demeanour. I gain nothing from his success but it's great to see him win. I remember railing his WCOOP main event FT wishing he'd win. His PCA victory was also super fun.
Isildur1 does not use a HUD, does not use any training sites or any of that stuff how he got so good at poker is by playing same with Phil ivey who started playing Stud when he was 12 years old. He is living prove that you don't have to be a maths or Game theory genius to do extremely well in poker Geez, Phil ivey did not even know what EV was till Dwan told him.
Valid points. Unless he does use a HUD, do maths, study off the table, member of every training site, watches other regs and studies them taking copious notes, meditates regularly, and has a personal assistant next to him who removes him from the table whenever he starts to tilt even the slightest amount.
Perhaps he is leveling us. He could have the most advanced HUD known to mankind! Or maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist...
:D
How can anyone be sure that Viktor doesn't study math and/or game theory? Or discuss high level strategy with other nosebleed players?
I asked the same thing a few lines above.
People gave some answers, but i would still distrusting about this. I know a lot of mid high stakes players that usually said that they dont study the game but they actually do.
My guess would be he's talked a lot of strategy, but that was when people knew him. I highly doubt he was skyping with Ike or something in 2009 about HUNL.
And I'd also guess he has taken some form of coaching. How do you learn PLO this quickly, know about blockers, equities etc.?
I doubt he studies game theory, though. A lot of nosebleeds players say Isildur is really good, but he does ''some things wrong''. My guess would be that's because he plays an exploitative style. We're all just guessing though, and you'd have to ask one of the players he regularly plays against.
Cmon Viktor, let's go on a heater!
Maybe WCGrider should put his money where his mouth is. Been playing Oddsen for a while now.
400/800 no cap would be awesome.
Yeah, he denies action to everyone.....................
I was talking about PLO with Isildur, which he doesn't want.
isildur is a looser. fact
He plays the top regs at every game. Up until a week ago, he was the biggest winner of the year.
So? Thats his choice. He clearly has money coming from somewhere though. Rich family? business? Hes a looser simple as that. although he has just crush phil g for a million in the past 24 hours. sik
He certainly is not a tighter
He said he was up 12 million on the euro sites at his peak.
Add sponsorship from FT etc. And tourbament winnings.
His tournament winnings are really what I find the most impressive, the kind of "cherry on the top".
I mean, it's one thing to be a nosebleed high stakes player, play anybody, have a complete disregard for money, not use a HUD, have a sponsorship, etc. All of that stuff is immensely impressive on it's own. But on top of all that, he's won PCA's super high roller in 2012 for 1.2M, and the SCOOP's super high roller for 1M last year. It just baffles me.
For a 23 year old poker player, it's pretty incredible.
amazing mind :/
You're talking about the thread starter, aren't you?

he's the sickest
I don´t want to spy in the soup, but did anyone read the inofficial "memoirs" of him that were once published - but later deleted (afaik), because Isildur didn´t authorize the release?
It got pretty obvious to me that he´s nothing more than a degenerated addict who couldn´t even stop himself from gambling away his friend´s rent money that he had access to ... truly a fine guy. :|
Dan Cates on Viktor Blom <--- Interesting read.
Ilildur is playing draw games against Ragen, HUNL vs Saniker, and HUPLO vs Trex.
Not quitte like 9-tabling 100kNL uncapped, but still pretty sick.
That is possibly the sickest man alive. Like for real he may be sick to do something like that. As in he may have bumped his head at some point. Amazing how he does these things and doesn't get fleeced.
