Future of online poker - 5 years from now

New year, new challenges, new possibilities.

But how does the future of online poker look 5 years from now. Is the future bright or rater dark, somewhere in between?
Im very interested in this subject, and I wonder what the community here on RIO thinks.

With states legalizing online gaming, i see atleast 15 states jumping on board, with player pools all playing together. I dont think it will be back on par with stars/ftp pre black friday, but i see it getting there. I believe WPN will follow suit of stars/ftp with the traction its gained and its popularity and size. From a legal standpoint i think it will be 100x the size it is now, and comfortable and secure. Im in PA and awaiting the real money online games to roll out this year.

Just my opinion on the state regulation thing. Firstly we don't need the states to legalize anything because nobody is breaking the law in the first place. Secondly when you look at what happened every time the government stepped in to do ANYTHING related to online poker it was an utter catastrophe so I would rather they stay out of my business rather it be state or federal. (port act, black friday, etc.) Our only lobbyists on our behalf is the PPA which never seemed to accomplish anything but set themselves up for donations and pat the supreme court on the back for telling us that playing online poker wasn't against the law in the first place (which we all knew anyway) but only right after the justice department prosecuted all the major poker sites for violations attached to the stupid port act. All these bureaucrats don't fool me one bit. Look at the campaign donations for these politicians and you will find scummy characters like Sheldon Adelson as the driving force for all this garbage legislation. Sorry guys but this poker legislation topic gets me heated a bit.

The future will be there for online poker, it’ll be just different. 4 states now legalized and regulated, perhaps the 5th to be New York, where I’m from :) Slowly but surely it’ll make its way back into the mainstream. I don’t see a boom or anything of that nature, but with the way poker performs on Twitch, that might help its performance overall. Twitch is valuable to the online poker world. There are some sites out there, besides the big ones, that are doing well today. Americas Cardroom, Ignition, and most recently Global Poker are starting to come more into play. A cellphone app called pppoker app is starting to create some waves too for real money online. The downside to online is that it’s getting more difficult as time goes on due to massive information to learn and take in plus there aren’t quite as many fish as there used to be. Still, fish are there but not a enormous amount like back in the golden era. Overall, online poker will live on, it’ll just be different than it once was I believe.

Im pretty sure online poker will be here for years and years to come, as long as people still use computers. I think what online poker needs at the moment is one trustworthy person, almost mythical figure/huge influence to show the world that poker is not all just about making money and doing shady things. Theres too much greediness around us that makes people do very selfish and stupid things. Some people in poker are so corrupt that they say and do things that make no sense just to fill their own pockets. All those things hurt prestige of online poker tremendously thats why we are where we are at right now.
I really believe that Phil Galfond is the man who can bring back trust into online poker. How can you not like the man, always classy and respectful to everybody. Somebody just needs to prove to the world that poker site can operate in a way that both sides (owners and players) can be happy.
