Fantastic Interview with Matt "Hoss_TBF" Hawrilenko

Just wanted to share this because it's one of the best poker reads I've ever read yet it's reasonably concise and to the point. I've always been a big fan of Matt's and admire the fact that he was one of the first people to truly approach thinking about poker the "correct" way. Really smart dude and worth a read:

Hoss talks about how you should bluff the worst hands in your range and value bet the best generally but as long as you have the frequency right you really don't need to do this do you? It's easier to know what the worst hands are in your range are but if you had a really excellent understanding of what hands fell in to what percentile in your distribution I would argue that you would show more profit bluffing the higher strength hands on down with the highest strength bluff being the first hand you think has not enough showdown value to check. Or alternatively there may be certain boards and betting actions that may make the hands you bluff go in order of having certain cards in them.

I definitely agree with you that blockers are going to be a big factor when it comes to bluffing rivers in holdem and omaha. A lot of the time in order for us to have relevant blockers it's actually going to take us having a medium strength hand. With that in mind, I think what you're saying about having hands slightly below our calling cutoff in our bluffing range makes a ton of sense. The again, Hoss may have simply been simplifying the concept for the average poker player by dividing your hands into 3 classes where the top class constitutes your nut hands which you can bet and raise, the second class being medium strength hands that you usually check can call with and finally your worst hand which you use occasionally to bluff.
