endless strugle for me

Just to kick things off DONT LAUGH :)
Last night ran my last KK into AA in a what was to be a pretty deep run, and of course busted out of a decent comp.

My dillema is this... Recently i've been having these dejavu sort of moments when i actually knew opponent has me crushed pre (even with hands like KK and QQ) and in more then one occasion i was feeling down by calling off my stack pre desite those moments...
Is it justifiable to trust that basic gut instinct and act on it in those key moments in deep runs and such and will it hurt me in the long run???

i try to trust my gut sometimes if its super strong gut/instinct, and can make some pritty lol calls or folds. rly depends on how good your 'feel' is. don't be results orientated though after not being right a couple times, you shouldn't make a call/fold/raise because of results or your emotions, it should never just be 'feel', there should be reasons for making the play, analyse the hand and try and break down your opponents range as narrow as you can, and if you are not getting the correct price vs the range you give to your opponents, regardless of the cards you hold, then make the correct decision which aligns with this.

Nice post Sam. We all get those feelings Marko, and for me it's how I started understanding how to guess a range for my opponent intuitively before I really started to understand the math behind poker.

Your gut instinct is probably something you should listen to, but not at the expense of mathematically sound decisions.

It's important to trust your reads but it's also important to understand that we rarely have a complete grasp on what our opponents are capable of, you might think someone never bluffs a certain spot, but they may be competent enough to know that you know that, or just make a really bad bluff in a certain spot for whatever reason.

cash game wise i dont have issues with its just deep in comps i played really well troughout and havent made a single mistake, if i go against my guts and stick to "dont fold KK pre" i really am result oriented and usuall pissed afterwards :) something to work on i geuss :) tnx for the input :)

fwiw I would never fold kk in a tourney pre[unless ICM reasons], not because of any set 'i have kk, can't fold menatality' but just because I find it incredibly difficult to narrow someones range down to just aa enough of the time that I should be folding. can't ignore the random spew factor that comes in to play in tournaments against players we don't know that much about

I agree with Sam that it is almost never a good idea to fold kings pre unless your opponent has a 3bet of 0-1% through hundreds of hands basically telling you they only do it with aces. other wise against any other player its an obvious move to get it in because most ranges easily include JJ+ AK for tight players and can get way looser depending on player type and stack sizes. yeah it sucks when they do wake up with aces but this is a +EV play.
