Does place matter? - online poker

Hi guys. I usually play poker in my room and to be honest, my performance is not that grate, i guess.
For example, I can't have a long session since my concentration is gone too fast.
I had thought about this problem and I found that it was the matter of the place of play.
I read the article about "comfort zone" and it says my room/house should be the place of the rest, not work.
so, when I play (online) poker in my room, it ruins the pattern.
therefore, i decided to play online poker outside, such as in cafe.

how do you think about it? is it right?
if it is right... hmm... i should spend a lot of money for buying coffee in the cafe :(

Too distracting for me, but Epiphany made it work during scoop playing from a starbucks.
You just have to see if it works for you.
Maybe rent a office ? Or create a room that's an office for you, good lighting. GL

There are internal and external solutions to your problem of losing focus when playing in your room. Internal solutions can be preparing to play, meditation, going for a walk before playing (maybe going to the cafe is where a lot of the benefit comes from), playing while standing etc. External solutions can be listening to music, playing somewhere else, doing something with your room etc.

Definately reccomend being somewhere withought distractions. Poker is an intense game and requires full concentration. I would not play in a cafe

Some people find the "white noise"of a cafe to aid concentration. Ive come across apps that simulate the noise of a cafe to help. Personally i find public places super distracting but each to their own.

Might sound a little odd; I have headphones that I wouldn't say are necessarily noise cancelling, but definitely can remove a lot of excess noise and when I play sometimes I'll wear them even if I am not in the mood to listen to music. That helps me when I feel like I need to lock in mentally and there are possible distractions around that I just can't ignore.

Have to somewhat disagree with most of our pros on this, I definitely feel more concentrated when I play somewhere where there are other people nearby, as opposed to just playing alone from a comfortable chair at a comfortable home in my pajamas. Don't know if I'd recommend a cafe, but what has worked great for me is renting a desk in one of the coworking spaces, they're pretty trendy nowadays, filled with hard working freelancers, usually it's not more than 150$ a month (where the standard of living is 3$-4$ for a cup of coffee) and they come with a lot of perks - probably you would spend just as much playing from a cafe. As for listening to music I always found it incredibly distracting, up until a couple weeks ago when I discovered AI generated music patterns targeted for brain activity, did an absolute charm on me, probably one of my biggest revelations in a long time, definitely noticing increased feeling of sharpness and even increased bb/100, although could be just a sampling size matter.

Interesting to see a different take on this topic. I have actually read up on the AI generated music patterns, so that's pretty cool that you are implementing those. May look into that a little more.

I think a quiet, comfortable room certainly helps and putting on headphones and listening to some soothing music tends to help me. I put on classical at times and for me it's beneficial. A healthy routine before you sit down and play is also beneficial.

I like the headphones suggestion a bit !
Adding to this, you can buy some room dividers that youl put up when you play, thus making it seem like an office and your brain will learn the difference that when they are up and you are closed in vs when they are not up and you are ok to do whatever.

Get them in a fashion so that you can literally have only a small working space around you and walls all around. On top you could even add your headphones, lock in full on focus mode engaged. Come what may.

They work really well and I would recommend this highly over playing outside.

I have a 55" HD tv, a wireless keyboard and an elecom huge trackball mouse, and I sleep on the futon I play on. I don't seem to have any problems but I am critical about ritual though. (nothing weird just preparation before playing.) The first thing I do when I wake up if I'm going to play is change into some clothes I would wear away so no pajamas and slippers I then fire up some spoitify to get my energy right. I usually start off with some metal or rap to get me in that combative mindset then towards the middle of my session switch to a nice trance or techno. I then start a pot of coffee fix my futon to couch mode, eat some breakfast, fill my coffee mug and sit down to play. I load up about 3-4 tables and go till I feel like stopping. I do feel it is important to be disciplined though. When I am playing poker I am playing poker not talking on the phone, looking shit up on the net etc. When I am studying poker I am studying poker not watching irrelevant you tube videos etc. When I am relaxing/ goofing off I am not doing anything poker related at all except maybe watch an interview on youtube or a sweat video or something. I feel like work life balance is the key to the longevity of doing this where you have the freedom to do what you feel like when you feel like. Poker time is poker time. Study time is study time. Other stuff doesn't leak into my poker time and poker most certainly will not leak into my non poker playing life. No taking the gf to play poker, when hanging out with non poker friends and you get "hey want to go to the casino and play?" Nah no thanks i'll pass. If I get a call while I'm playing I decline it if I get called back I answer and say "I'm playing is it important?" If not "hey I'll call you back in like 2 hrs is that fine?"
