Defeating Abusive Forum Members
Let's jump right into it:
RIO has an absolutely great community but, unfortunately, as it will continue to grow with time, the chances of trolls (Definition Here) popping up in the threads will only increase.
I was inspired by one of Aleksandra's posts in a thread, and I think it would be a great idea to implement a system to combat trolls.
If a certain amount of a user's post are flagged as inappropriate by enough people, the user would be restricted, and not able to comment or post in the forums for a certain period of time.
__________________________________________________
Ex:
-Troll will reply to this post: "You are an idiot, I can say whatever I want, etc."
-I, along with 5 other RIO members, will flag his post as inappropriate, and he will receive a first warning.
-Troll will continue (trolls never stop): "Blabla, aggressive language, etc."
-I, along with 5 other RIO members, will flag his post as inappropriate, again.
-Moderators are notified of the troll's behaviour, and they decide if he/she should receive a restriction (chat ban).

The punishments could be exponential, starting with 24 hours, followed by a week the next time his comments are considered inappropriate, then a month, etc.
Of course, this system could be abused if it were automatic, but I believe the impllementation of moderators prevents this from happening. It's quite basic, but I think it could work very well. It also allows the RIO community to be (semi) self-regulated.
Discuss.
