Changing My Main Game

Hi Guys,

I wanted to let everyone know that I'm changing game so to speak - I'm quitting playing poker full-time to work as a strategy consultant for a top boutique firm in London (I start on Monday, Sept. 1). I had never intended to pursue poker as a career and the opportunity I've been offered in London stands to provide me with a ton of exciting new challenges. This does not mean I will stop playing poker completely, it will remain a hobby about which I am very passionate, but as I cannot commit the time to it that I have been able to over the past 18 months, regrettably I will no longer be making training videos.

Being a member of the team here is something of which I have been, and remain, very proud, not only because it is so very strange seeing my name listed as a coach alongside some of the best players on the planet, but because I really believe the training methods here, and the community which has formed around them, are the best in the world. By far!

I joined RIO as a member for the same reason I suspect most of you did, to improve my game a little bit. I was then fortunate enough to be offered the chance to offer a reg's perspective on how to beat low-stakes PLO (the fact we have a number of coaches specifically teaching each level, many of whom came here first as members is something I think is really cool + the best way to help people gradually progress as players).

I would therefore like to take this opportunity to thank everyone here
who has helped make my time as a RunItOnce coach so enjoyable. From the team who edit my recordings into watchable videos, and my fellow coaches from whom I've learned so much, to each and every person who has viewed my content, commented on it, asked me questions, offered feedback, started threads, sent me PMs etc., I have truly appreciated every second of it.

And with that, I guess all that remains to say is, "I've been Tom Coldwell for RunItOnce.com, thanks so much for watching!"

P.S. That is not to say I'm leaving completely - I fully intend to stay active
in the community on the forums and responding to questions on my videos should anyone have
any (which means my pink LiLo avatar and it's little gold crown will
remain!).

I enjoyed you all the way on rio, as a super smart helpful member, and as an essential pro, the one who helped me most at some trivial spots i made major mistakes, typical beginners mistakes, but probably not even in back of the mind of some good pro, so i may say that i feel you being an essential pro gave superb basics to people who start, and is kinda unique quality since not much of such content is available anywhere.

I also loved your sense of humor wittiness and slight sarcasm that was so unique and refreshing, accent adding to totals of picture as a lovely stroke,  and may tell you you gonna be missed. That was kind of sad news :) to see you leave Rio, but in a way, i think i finished essential mistakes, :D thanks to you and zenfish in general :D , so i suppose you have to move on as well, in which i wish you all the best, and how good you were in this, i guess it wil reflect on all of your future endeavors, whatever may come on your way

Once again, best of luck, and hope to see you around at least here and there, since you are one of the members/pro;s that make RIO feel like home :)

Hey Tom, I just wanted to say what many before me have said - good luck to you and I am sure you will crush in this new chapter in your life.

I am not a PLO player (well not much of one) but I can say I have watched a few PLO vids and found yours to be truly helpful, you explain concepts clearly and I feel it has improved my Hold'em game! Which I think is a pretty big deal when a coach can explain himself in such a way that the concepts are not just applicable to a certain game but to poker in general. Your videos will surely be missed but thankfully you plan on staying active in the forums, so that is a win for us!

It is important to try and find something that you love as a career and it sounds like you do love poker but that it was never your true career goal. It will likely reduce some stress when you start pulling in that guaranteed money (what normal folks call a paycheck!). Writing this "Dear John" letter to the community also shows what a class act you are as it might be easier to just stop making videos rather than give us a proper goodbye. Not that there is anything wrong w/ a coach that just stops, as a member of the community I can say I appreciate it when a coach lets us know he is done and why. It is nice to know that you are moving ahead and didn't just get drunk and bust your roll betting on the Browns to win the Super Bowl or something, and are now grinding the micros trying to rebuild ;)

Again good luck in the job - wish you nothing but the best!

I came to RIO mostly to get some PLO content and you have really helped me to reconcile my NHE knowledge with this new and great game. Thanks and good luck with your new venture! I will be reviewing your vids for a long time

Best of luck!!  Only saw one video, but you were very friendly and answered all my questions in detail!  Thank you very much!  My PLO game improved greatly from just one video.  Best of luck in future endeavors!

I've always wanted to ask you this, they say dentists are more likely to have 'Dennis' as they first name.

Mister Coldwell, are you doing more cold 4-bets than your average opponent?
