Bankroll Management?
How do you manage your bankroll for NLHE cash games and MTT tournaments, why and what bankroll management (How many buy-ins) do you recommend me?.
I wanna start playing poker seriously. I have a little more than 400 bucks in my account and I'd like to start in the .08/.16 games (25 buy-ins). Do you think is enough or should I drop down to .05/.10.?
When (How many buy-ins) would you move up to the next limit?.
Thanks

As a general rule of thumb, it's good to at least have 20x the maximum buy-in. So for example, I tend to play live cash NLHE at the $1/$2 level. The minimum buy-in for that level is $50 and the max is $200. You take the max, (200), and times that by 20, which gives you 4,000. So in reality, I should have at least 4k in my roll if I wanna avoid going broke due to a downswing. For you, if you wanna play the micro-stakes, it just depends on what the max buy-in is for the particular level you choose, then times that by 20, and you'll get a good idea of how much you should have to start off with. 20x is a safe way to do it, and I've read in the past that many players go by the 20x max buy-in rule of thumb. It just helps prevent a player from going broke, which is easy to do if you don't have the right sized roll for the stakes you're playing at. Do what you feel comfortable doing. If you think .05/.10 is the right way to go due to your roll, go for that, but if you feel like you can excel at the .08/.16 games, go for that as well. When you wanna move up in limits, you have to have the correct sized roll for the limit. At times, I wanna play $2/$5, with a min buy-in of $200 and a max of $500, but I'm not quite close enough with my roll. (500x20=10,000). I would want to grind up my $1/$2 game to around that much, 10k or close to, then I would feel more comfortable playing at that level. Then again, you could be super aggressive, and move up rapidly like a Viktor Blom type personality, but in reality, there's really a select few that's like that. So all and all, be safe rather than sorry and stick to the 20x max buy-in logic, and you'll be well on your way. Good luck on the felt.
