Any experience on players not being able to move up at zoom tables?
A few years ago I was playing zoom and loved it, but I was stuck at 5NL - 10NL, constantly moving up and down. Eventually I started playing regular tables and managed to get out of the micro stakes quite fast. Now I have a friend who started playing poker recently and I'm coaching him a little. He wants to play zoom and as much as I like zoom myself, I'm afraid he might experience the same as I did. So I wonder if any players or coaches have any more info on this. Have you been stuck at zoom or maybe have students who can't seem to move up? Maybe I was just experiencing ridiculous variance (about 300k hands at 5nl and 10nl combined) and playing zoom isn't necessarily a bad idea.

I think it's very common. I haven't been able to pinpoint the most important reasons but I have a few theories for why.

Hi - I do have experience of this. When I work with students I tend to find that although zoom facilitates a higher hands/hr, it can also lead to impatience and players trying to play too fast. My advice to students is always the same focus on quality over quantity. Your primary focus in poker is moving up so do not think about short term profit.
