I definitely agree with deeper stacks utilizing your positional advantage more, but is it really enough to justify starting out in pots significantly smaller on all of your buttons? In a 3bet pot to 9BB you still have very close to enough to go 2/3rds on every street with 100BB stacks. Of course, with a raise on one of those streets this gets in very quickly.
I agree with Tom Coldwell in that I think that the politician match is different than a normal game. In a match where you are just looking to minimize variance as a huge favorite I think that min-raising is definitely the way to go. I think that for a cash game you should just be looking to maximize your EV though.
Would we be unanimously agreeing that opening pot is optimal at 1000BB stacks?
Edit: I had missed the last reply. Is anyone really raise/folding super wide? I think that even at 100BB stacks facing a 3bet you're able to profitably call with the vast majority of your hands.
Also, I meant to address this earlier but I don't think that your opponent being able to call with the weakest of hands is an advantage to min-raising. It isn't like he has any obligation to call with worse hands - he is only doing it because he is getting better pot odds. If anything, I think that this is a disadvantage of opening smaller.

I glanced around a bit and didn't see a thread on this. It seems like an important subject since it impacts about half of our hands.
Assuming we are playing with 100BB+ stacks, I've always opened pot. My rationalization for this is very basic - as long as the stacks are deep enough to allow for postflop play I want my pots while in position to be as big as possible.
After watching a few of the elite level videos on here I've noticed that a lot of the instructors are opening less - usually around 2.2x. Is there a rationalization for this that I'm missing? I feel like opening less than pot at 100BB+ should be a significant leak but I have no idea how to go about proving or disproving it. I'd love hear some other opinions on this.
How strong are those LHE bots in the casinos? I remember them being discussed heavily in 2010 but haven't heard them talked about much since. Has anyone really crushed them?
