Question regarding resteals with doublesuited, discoordinated A-high hands.
Hey. I hope it's okay to make a thread just for this question but I didn't really know where else to ask.
So, I was thinking about my play vs BTN steals. While I def need to call more hands I also thought about hands to 3bet. Of course there is no general rule for any hand but I found myself to be especially clueless when it comes to the absolute hand strength of stuff like AJ84ds, AQ52ds, AK72ds etc.
Let's say I'm playing in a game full of okay regulars so I can play my "average" amount of hands since I don't have to tighten up because there are aggro/very good players around and I also don't loosen up to play more pots with bad players.
- My default (in such games) would be to fold any discoordinated ds A-high hand in UTG and MP. I would even fold e.g. AK86ds in MP with 2 okay regs behind me. Is this too nitty or reasonable?
- In CO I will open most of those hands I wrote down above except vs a very very aggressive BTN. Then I will open AKds and 4bet it, fold most AJds (except stuff like AJ87ds+) and fold a good amount of AQds.
- Vs steals (Let's say we face a 2,5 or 3x BTN open from a standard 24/18 regular who is stealing 40-50%)
- In position: Is it profitable to call IP (esp OTB ofc) with those hands or is there more merit to 3bet or fold them preflop?
Would you call hands like AJ82ds vs a strong players MP open just for the sake of playing the hand vs him IP and not b/c of weak blinds or w/e.
If a TAG opens UTG and we are MP with AK76ds. His UTG range is to tight to 3bet this. Is it better to call or to fold such hands if the players behind us aren't gonna 3bet all the time.
- If we are 100bb deep. Is it okay to 3bet any of those hands since we can decrease the SPR by quite a bit, dominated FDs and take down pots a lot of the time by cbetting or is the disconnectedness and therefore bad playability still too high? I just feel like folding AK/AQ/AJds vs a steal is way to nitty and 3betting them works better than calling.
Sorry, if this post is too confusing. It's tough to 'generalize' questions like those. I'm not expecting anyone to give me big mathematical or theoretical reason why to or not to 3bet/open/ coldcall those hands. I'm just a bit afraid that I consider 3betting or folding hands which would be a huge mistake.
